| 99 BUILDING High-end builds a passion At Artwork Homes, the focus is on helping people make their architectural dreams a reality. Artwork Homes T T Rachel Graham Artwork Homes Limited is not your average building company building average homes. Their focus is mainly on helping people make their architectural dreams a reality. The directors of Artwork Homes, Dion Wellbourn and Lachlan Lane, have a combined working experience in architectural building for around 28 years. Dion Wellbourn says both he and Lachlan got their experience, and spent time as foremen, working on bespoke architecturally designed homes, and that is where they want to continue to use their skills. The company also does extension, renovations, and a range of new builds, but their real passion is the high-end architectural builds. Dion says that work can be more challenging but is also more rewarding than building your stock-standard house and land package homes. “It’s all down to getting the details right,” says Dion, “All the information is there on paper, but you need the skills to be able to pick everything out and execute it, and we have those skills and the experience.” “You also are always working with nice quality materials, which have often been selected through a long process. “And for many of the architecturally designed homes, it’s not just the house but also some amazing locations, which are great to work in.” Dion says the cost of building an architecturally designed home will be considerably more than a package deal house, but he says people get so much more. “You are making an investment in something special for you which will stand the test of time and reflect you and your personality. And you will get a house which really works for you.” He says with an architecturally designed home the architect can listen to what the client and their family want in a home and create a space which reflects individual needs and personality. Dion says they are also better able to incorporate new environmental developments which increase energy efficiency and improve health and well-being. Artwork Homes has recently completed two builds where the clients were other builders, and Dion says it was a great feeling to be entrusted by a builder to take on the jobs. Another recent job was an extensive renovation of an architecturally designed home, rather than a new build. The home is a mid-century style architectural unit on Rossall Street, designed by Don Donnithorne and constructed in 1980. It has now been extensively renovated using a design by Marc Coulthard, of Marc Coulthard Design and engineered by Steve Healey, of 5th Dimension Engineering. Dion says some of the work included new Aluminium Ulltraclad cladding by Ullrich Aluminium, new thermally broken argon filled windows, extensive changes to some internal walls including steel to form open plan living areas, and new landscaping. He says it was fascinating to work on an architectural build from many years ago, and to see how well it has stood the test of time. Dion says while there is some talk about a downturn in the housing market, he doesn’t expect any slowdown to flow through into the high-end builds. He says with such builds it is often a bit of a dream project, which people put a lot of time into planning and are unlikely to want to delay it. Artwork Homes Limited is currently made up of a team of four people, including Dion and his business partner, but is looking to grow. Dion Wellbourn says when people are looking for a company to make their home their masterpiece, Artwork Homes Ltd should be the company that comes to mind. 021 933 228 • callum@clplumbingsolutions.net Proudly associatedwith Artwork Homes ROOFIES LIMITED STANDING SEAM & LONGRUN ROOFING SPECIALIST Phone - 022 351 0253 | Email - sam@roofiesltd.co.nz 027 356 9381 michael@cottonelectrical.co.nz CottonElectricalLtd Proud to be associatedwith ArtworkHomes and the Rossall Street project Phone: 03 983 5500 waterfordpress.co.nz Your Business, Your Industry, Your News.
