| 111 T T Kelly Deeks Social housing project focus for Core Core Homes’ Matthew MacDonald is embracing the social housing market. Core Homes BUILDING Independent Christchurch residential building company Core Homes is proud to be adding brand new, warm, healthy, well designed and built units to Kāinga Ora’s social housing stock, as owner Matthew MacDonald uses his own Wellington Street site to build six Gravity Architecture designed homes less than a kilometre away from Linwood and all of its amenities. Core Homes traditionally builds bespoke, standalone new homes throughout Canterbury for a range of customers with different requirements. One thing they all have in common is they’re looking for a reliable, trustworthy, and efficient local builder to share the load of their new home project from start to finish. Matthew offers his clients a personal experience and his vested interest in each home he builds being built to the highest standard. He says Core Homes’ independence is a huge advantage to anyone looking to build a home of their own. “Core Homes is run by its owners and we take pride in building new homes that reflect quality and attention to detail,” he says. “We tend to build homes that the volume builders can’t build or do not wish to build due to the degree of difficulty or customisation. We cater for all types of housing, while maintaining a personal and professional service found that can only be found in smaller companies, and our customers deal directly with me from concept to completion.” Every client and their home are one-offs for Matthew and Core Homes. He builds positive and reciprocal relationships with his clients, customises every project to suit, and does not replicate homes. “We don’t want to build the same house twice, as no two customers are the same.” Now Matthew is embracing the social housing market and building six similar units “The satisfaction I get on this project is providing six brand new, beautifully built, warm, dry, well designed, Homestar 6 social houses for people who need them.” for New Zealand’s largest residential landlord, and the country’s largest client of residential building services. Matthew had the ideal site on Wellington Street, where he says there are five other multi-unit developments underway. Close to the CBD, and closer to a multitude of services in Linwood including public transport, this 876sqm section was exactly what Kāinga Ora was looking for. With the expertise of Kāinga Ora preferred supplier Gravity Architecture on the project team, Core Homes is working hard to complete this project as soon as practically possible, while maintaining that high standard. Matthew has employed his trusted team of subcontractors, many of whom he’s worked with for more than 10 years, and says this is key to meeting the timeline as well as the quality standard. “I’m very aware of the timeframe, but I’m not going to run out and get the first subcontractors I can find,” he says. “If you go for a cheap contractor, you are going to miss out on quality of either the product or the service. I use the subcontractors I can trust to provide both.” Matthew says building has always been a satisfying career. Being able to step back at the end of each day and see what you’ve achieved is very gratifying. “The satisfaction I get on this project is providing six brand new, beautifully built, warm, dry, well designed, Homestar 6 social houses for people who need them.” KAIAPOI KAIAPOI'S LOCAL BUILDING SUPPLY STORE Right products, right advice.
