VINZ’s origins stem back to the early days of Japanese vehicle imports into New Zealand when a cooperative of used car dealers formed the business to facilitate vehicle entry. Originally called Vehicle Identi ication New Zealand, the business was founded at a time when all that a used import required was a 17-digit VIN number stamped and a ixed to the vehicle, followed by a WOF inspection. When the rules around vehicle entry changed in the early 2000s to a much more invasive inspection, the company name changed to Vehicle Inspection New Zealand, retaining the VINZ acronym. In 2013 the business was bought by JEVIC Company Limited, a member of the Optimus Group who are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market, and comprise of a number of companies that operate globally. Over the years the the services o ered by VINZ have evolved to include a comprehensive suite of services which are predominantly regulatory inspections carried out as a key service delivery partner to NZTA, Waka Kotahi. That includes WOF, COF, used light/heavy vehicle entry inspections, along with some ancillary inspection products. “The larger part of our o ering is b2b, working directly with leet operators and commercial customers like THL,” says VINZ Operations Manager Grady Stevens. “Retail, including private WOFs, COFs and a degree of entry compliance for private customers is a much smaller part of our o ering. Our point of di erence really is being part of the Optimus Group’s overall supply chain and a very high level of customer service. While the B2B o ering certainly includes used entry inspections and ongoing regulatory WOF, COF inspections, the fact that we are part of the Optimus Group means the customer can use the Groups services chain from anywhere in the world, particularly from Japan. If a business was to purchase a used vehicle out of Japan, the Optimus Group can facilitate the purchase, the export and shipping from Japan, and entry compliance provided by VINZ once the vehicle arrives.” VINZ relationship with tourism operator THL stems back at least 15 years and Grady says the service provided by VINZ is a great example of the holistic customer service delivered by the wider VINZ team, and the services o ered through Optimus Group. “Once THL has purchased motorhomes from Europe, VINZ facilitates a complete end-to-end service including shipping, collection from the Port to our facility, processing for entry compliance, and add-on services such as plumbing and electrical re it, and then delivers of the motorhome ready to go out on hire.” Grady points out that while many customers will select VINZ because of the services it can o er, although part of Optimus Group, VINZ is a standalone company and clients can choose which of the services they wish to use. https://vinz.co.nz/vehicletesting-stations/
