Aiming to help Kiwis achieve their own little slice of New Zealand, family development company Traverse is now making its way south after seven major North Island subdivisions and more than 150 new sections on the market. Now working in Picton, Traverse is looking forward to bringing a further 30 sections to the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. “Picton is such a beautiful area, we feel really lucky we’ve managed to secure a piece of land there,” says Traverse sales and marketing manager Kari Peden. “It’s got everything - a calm and strong community with plenty of amenity, a beautiful seaside, a really good toasted sandwich shop, and easy access to Nelson and Marlborough.” Traverse is a family owned and operated business creating high quality living environments and managing every stage of the process from sourcing and purchasing land, designing a subdivision and gaining consents, overseeing completion of earthworks and roadworks, through to sales to the end customer. Started by Paul and Bitten Fearon in 2005, these parents are joined in their business by their son and general manager Kent and his wife Kelly, and their daughter Kari. “We all live in one of our subdivisions and we really focus on making high quality subdivisions that finished really well and are lovely to live in,” Kari says. “We believe in our finished product and we are happy to live there ourselves.” Now selling off-plan and close to the amenities of Kerikeri township is stage two of a Traverse development, 24 sites between 340sqm to 640sqm, and a few larger sections up to 975sqm. In Ngunguru, Traverse has built a further 33 sites by the beach with titles issued, creating a rare opportunity for purchasers to acquire a coastal residential section in the popular village. All sites have underground power and fibre-optic to the boundary, sewer and stormwater connection, and are accessed by paved private road and ROWs. In Picton, Traverse has purchased 15ha of land, already consented for 30 new house sites and a large area of bushland. This development is still in its very early stages and Kent and Kari are now looking locally for the contractors they need to get started on construction. We always focus on using local people and we work through a stringent process to select our contractors and make sure their values align with ours, and their previous projects are all completed to a high standard of quality. “The benefit of doing a development of this size is it’s ongoing work for people, and now that we’re out of Covid restrictions, Kent will be on site regularly to make sure everything is running to the standard we need.” Kari says the Fearon family is very happy to have achieved their dream of bringing their business across the Cook Strait and hopes to continue their development journey down the island. “We need housing, and we need somewhere to put it. We want people to have their own slice of New Zealand and achieve their Kiwi dream.”
