Having taken over an existing 25-yearold business (N-Viro Ltd), the McLean’s and Kibblewhite’s – with the added support from Bill Day’s Seaworks, just a few months later - have continued to innovate as nimble service providers in New Zealand’s marine sector. Their specialist services span the full range from screw anchors, moorings and jetties to commercial and construction diving and barging. Whether it’s a new installation, service, inspection, logistical support or advice, MSNZ is ready to assist on every project. With high holding power screw anchor products and systems at the core of what they offer today, MSNZ has also focussed on developing new products and services. It has been a recipe for success. “Since 2018, we have more than doubled the size of the business and invested in a second bigger vessel and a new 18-metre by 9-metre barge,” observes Richard McLean, MSNZ’s general manager. This new aluminium barge is designed to carry anything from building materials to stock trucks and diggers. “Lately our barge has been very busy as work has now started repairing damage done by the floods back in 2022.” Their full-time staff of four is complemented by a commercial dive team offering services ranging from inspections to underwater construction. “You want it done, we can do it from dredging, water blasting and demolition, to search and retrieval of equipment.” With two purpose-built vessels, MSNZ uses one to service the top of the South Island and Wellington, with the other covering from Stewart Island to Ninety Mile Beach in the far North and Australia’s east coast. The suite of screw anchor systems available from MSNZ are dependable and long lasting and additionally rank as the most environmentally sensitive anchor system on the market. Whether to anchor a marine farm or as part of an environmentally friendly mooring system for vessels up to 40m in length or more, these screw anchors are being widely used from Stewart Island in the south to Ahipara in the north. In 2019, MSNZ installed their first Single Anchor Leg Mooring (SALM) system in New Zealand followed by the first of four Multi-Point Anchor Leg Mooring (MALM) systems for larger vessels in 2022. These are Since 2018 Marine Services NZ has doubled in size, invested in a bigger vessel and a new 18-metre by 9-metre barge. based on a tried and tested design, used reliably in offshore industry over many years. Currently, MSNZ is involved with a screw anchor installation for Māui Inc, a fledgling aquaculture venture focusing on collecting New Zealand’s Green-lipped Mussel spat sustainably and naturally through a new patent pending method. “If successful, this could be a game changer for the NZ mussel industry and for Northland.
