RLA Construction BUILDING The persistent issue of a lack of affordable housing for local working families in Blenheim has taken a positive stride forward, thanks to the efforts of RLA Construction. The renowned local builder and developer has successfully addressed the shortage by constructing a series of townhouses for the local affordable housing market. RLA Construction director Richard Anderson says the newly developed townhouses are a game-changer for the community. “These are all high-spec two-story homes, strategically located near the town centre, designed to alleviate the chronic shortage of accommodation for middle-income workers in the town.” Dillions Point, a development comprising five townhouses, all featuring three bedrooms, garaging, and outdoor spaces, is already making a positive impact. Meanwhile, the George Street development offers four 4-bedroom townhouses with garaging, patios, and a modern layout. The mix of red brick and stria cladding adds a touch of contemporary elegance to the properties. Excitingly, there is more good news on the horizon. RLA Construction is diligently working on a project on 200 High Street, set to be completed around September this year. This complex will consist of five four-bedroom townhouses, each boasting a 30 sq. metre outdoor area and a deck. All five units were bought by the Marlborough Sustainable Housing Trust, a regional community housing provider committed to addressing housing challenges faced by individuals dealing with age, health, or disability-related issues. The Trust ensures that their properties meet LifeMark standards, demonstrating a dedication to creating homes that are accessible and usable for people of all ages, stages, and abilities. Features such as level entry access, wider doorways, and easy to reach taps, window latches, light switches, and power points - make these townhouses a beacon of inclusivity in the housing market. Looking ahead, RLA Construction has ambitious plans for further townhouse developments within Blenhiem. “The three-bedroom red brick Redwood townhouses are already sold to investors and are tenanted,” Richard says. “Also, some light commercial. We finished an office/warehouse for a local forestry company in December and that’s all tenanted out now.” Two upcoming complexes on Muller Road and Scott Street are already in the planning stages, promising 2 to 3-bedroom townhouses with triple garaging. With eight years of experience in delivering high-quality homes throughout Marlborough and the Marlborough Sounds, RLA Construction is a reputable and energetic force in the industry. “I’d been building for 12 years and started RLA eight years ago. Plus, I grew up around building, so it’s always been a passion,” says Richard. Today he’s more involved within the business and development arm with a focus on first-class construction and superior service to clients. Specialising in residential new builds, out-of-town homes, renovations, and light commercial projects, the company continues to prioritise first-class construction and superior service.
