McKain Quality Construction BUILDING Nick McKain is an experienced, qualified Master Builder, who founded McKain Quality Construction in Ashburton in 2015 to provide a specialist building service across the local town and country market. Together with his wife Danielle, Nick a.k.a. ‘Noodles’ leads a handpicked team of builders and support staff with the skills and experience to deliver on every project, whether it’s upgrading a farm shed or staff accommodation, or building a family dream home. Nick and Danielle love their community and are invested in its future. Their exciting new private housing development – Willow View, on Ashburton’s rural fringe – responds beautifully to market needs in the area. “We have got 19 sections, with packages ranging in price from $650,000 to $775,000 and lots sized from 140m² to 260m². All homes are custom designed, drawing on our considerable experience and knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work. “Our vision at Willow View is about wanting to provide a better product for the market that’s also more cost effective.” With a rural outlook, Willow View provides a gateway to adventure. Recreational amenities on the doorstep include the Ashburton mountain bike track, river walkways and a dog exercise park. Currently under construction at Willow View are two new homes: Lot 14 – a spacious, well-designed three-bedroom, 175m² home on a 500m² section (‘Airstrip’ design) – and Lot 21, a gorgeous four-bedroom 240m² home with a large double garage on a 687m² section (‘Benmore’ design). “Prospective home buyers are invited to explore our website – www.mqc.co.nz – to see what’s coming up at Willow View. To date, we have eight house and land packages listed, all ready to go. We hope to build the bulk of those by the end of the year. “We take care of every little detail – even the mailbox! - so once we hand over the keys, you’re good to go.” Nick and Danielle are both involved with local sports clubs and proudly support their community. McKain Quality Construction sponsors teams throughout the region. “We are passionate about giving back to Mid Canterbury. It’s why we have made a pledge that for every Willow View house and land package we sell, we will give $2000 to a registered local club or charity.” McKain Quality Construction’s commitment to the local farm sector is another hallmark of the business. Nick and the team provide expert project management from start to finish to ensure functional, quality outcomes for their rural clientele. “We have a big focus on upgrading buildings in rural Canterbury, particularly accommodation for staff. If the bathroom or kitchen has been done up well, it creates a much better impression and makes it easier for farmers to recruit and retain quality staff.” McKain Quality Construction is committed to supporting accessible living, providing solutions for future-focussed new builds and renovations and delivering all types of accessibility modifications. “As one of the main contractors for ACC and Enable New Zealand, from Dunsandel to South Canterbury, we are often humbled by the response we get, for example, when installing handrails in a bathroom; people often give us a hug.” Nick supports industry progression and is a generous mentor of young builders. McKain Quality Construction has already trained several local apprentices through BCITO and participates in programmes like Mates in Construction. Two more staff have started their apprenticeship journey in 2024. “One of them, Hamish, just left school last year and has been with us as an after-school boy for two years. “He’s now come in full-time and signed up for an apprenticeship. The other, Meg, is a qualified joiner who had wanted to come across into building. We have encouraged her to get her ticket and go for it.” No matter the project – new homes, renovations or farm buildings - McKain Quality Construction can be relied upon to get the job done.
