REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Flight Industrial Park is fast becoming one of Blenheim’s most important new economic assets, transforming a former sawmill site into a thriving hub for industry, employment and growth on the western edge of town. “The Park supports the industrial and light industrial sector of the Marlborough business community providing opportunities for expansion or for new business to enter the region,” says Derek Lander, director of Flight Industrial Park Ltd. “This all creates jobs and a positive flow-on effect to the local economy.” Set across six hectares, the site has a long industrial history. It was home to a sawmill from the 1950s until 2021. The property and mill were purchased in 1988 by Flight, which ran and developed the sawmill business through to 2015 when the operation was sold to an Australian sawmiller. When it subsequently closed the mill in 2020, Flight made the decision to redevelop the land and its buildings, converting it into a modern industrial park that would serve the needs of Marlborough businesses. “We were keen to find a constructive use for the site and because of its industrial zoning and proximity to town it seemed ideal to use it for this purpose,” says Derek. “We also had a number of useful buildings on the site. It was an opportunity for us to build a first-class industrial facility for Blenheim and there is good demand for industrial space as the Marlborough region continues to develop.” T T to page 56 Passionate about delivering quality innovative designs WWW.HAWKINSARCHITECTURE.CO.NZ Proudly Supporting Fl ight Industrial Park PRECAST CONCRETE - DONE BETTER Another Solution Delivered By Proud to be supplying Flight Industrial Park E: daryl@precastsystems.co.nz P: 021 680 931
