With a combined 36 years of industry experience, they believed there was room for a service provider built on higher workmanship standards, stronger communication, and genuine accountability. From its beginnings as a two-person operation, OSMR has grown into a team of 18 skilled tradespeople and support staff, servicing clients across Marlborough and the wider top of the South Island. The business supports a broad range of industries, including forestry, construction, road transport, marine, and power generation – sectors where reliability is essential and downtime directly impacts productivity. Flexibility has been central to OSMR’s success. For rural contractors and transport operators, the ability to mobilise quickly and minimise downtime has become a key advantage. OSMR’s mantra, ‘Do it once. Do it right’, underpins every job, Aaron says. “In heavy plant and truck systems, shortcuts often lead to repeat failures and escalating costs. The team prioritises thorough diagnostics, quality parts, and precision workmanship to ensure repairs are completed correctly the first time.” Training and development are also central to the company’s long-term vision. OSMR is committed to investing in its people, with most staff engaged in formal training and ongoing upskilling. Ben and Aaron strongly believe in bringing apprentices through the business and developing the next generation of technicians. Both founders were given opportunities early in their own careers, and they are passionate about providing the same pathway for others entering what they describe as one of the best industries in the world. “Building capability from within not only strengthens the business, but also supports the wider mechanical sector in Marlborough,” Ben says. The company has achieved several significant milestones in recent years. In 2021, OSMR was awarded the Scania dealership for Marlborough, recognising its technical capability and professionalism. In 2025, it expanded further, becoming a dealer for MAN, Western Star, and Detroit. Most recently, OSMR was named Scania New Zealand Independent Dealer of the Year for 2025, a national recognition that reflects the team’s consistent performance, service quality, and commitment to the brand. Despite this growth, OSMR remains privately owned and hands-on.
