Brooksfield, which specalises in designing new homes that look like heritage villas, has recently added to its portfolio with its Cashmere Gardens development in Hunter Terrace. Managing director Vincent Holloway says the development has been carefully designed to blend timeless architectural style with modern day functionality. “Cashmere Gardens at Hunter Terrace is about bringing character back to Christchurch in a way that makes sense for how people live today,” he says. “From the beginning, the vision was to create a cohesive community. We wanted the homes to feel established, warm, and timeless rather than the typical modern boxy developments.” The 13-home development is located in Cashmere, a suburb considered one of the city’s most desirable. Vincent says the location was a natural fit for the vision Brooksfield had in mind. “Cashmere has always been a special part of Christchurch. It has established trees, it’s close to the Port Hills, it’s in sought after school zones and there’s a real sense of community. Hunter Terrace, in particular, offered the opportunity to create something that would fit in well with the beautiful villas and character homes of the area. When we’re selecting locations for this style of development, we look for areas where people genuinely want to live long term. All the homes are designed to be warm, low maintenance and built to stand the test of time. Vincent says Cashmere Gardens, which will feature 13 homes, is progressing steadily and remains on target to be completed in August. He says building strong relationships along the way have been key at every stage. “We’re lucky to have great relationships with local suppliers, contractors and trades. These long term relationships help our builds run smoothly, so it supports the local economy while also helping to ensure build quality.” He says sustainability also plays a vital role in the Hunter Terrace development. “Every home is designed to meet or exceed standard building requirements. We use locally made, sustainable materials where we can and prefer to partner with suppliers with values that align with ours. A great example is the sustainable Terra Lana wool insulation that we use.” Buyers enjoying the comfort of a Brooksfield home cover a broad cross-section of the market, including younger couples buying their first home, older couples downsizing, families, and single people. “Generally, people love character homes, but don’t want the maintenance of a beautiful old home.” However, Brooksfield, in some cases, is doing more than just getting people into an architecturally designed home. It recently captured national attention by giving away a free home, a move that was driven by values. “The decision to give away a home was about the impact we could make. We’ve seen firsthand how housing changes lives, and while our core aim is to beautify cities and build beautiful, sustainable homes that people will value for years, we also wanted to make a difference to someone in our community,” Vincent says. “Giving away a home felt like a meaningful way to do that.” He says surprising the winner with the keys was “such an incredible moment.” Brooksfield has a range of other projects either underway or about to start in Auckland, Selwyn, and Nelson. It also has more ‘Gardens’ developments launching soon, including Ngaio Gardens and Colwyn Gardens.
