Hydraulic services tailored to needs of industry.... MINING - WEST COAST » Rosco Contractors Greymouth’s Colin Holmes Hydraulics brings 40 years of hydraulic and mechanical engineering expertise to the West Coast, with Colin and his two sons Taylor and Callan providing an extensive range of services to a select clientele. Engineer Colin always had an interest in hydraulics and taught himself in the specialised eld. Because there was limited mobile hydraulics service on the West Coast at the time, he got himself some stock and a press and started up Colin Holmes Hydraulics. “It was a pretty steep learning curve, and I’m still learning every year,” he says. “Mining on the West Coast has always been a large part of my business, and will continue to be into the future.” After 40 years in the industry, Colin has a big advantage. He has extensive knowledge of who is best at what they do and of where to source products and components. He’s not franchised, so he has the ability to source componentry from wherever he needs to, depending on the requirements of the project. “Using quality matched hydraulic hoses and ttings is critical, and I choose Manuli product supplied by Kiwi Hose and Hydraulics,” he says. Colin’s sons have been working with him for more than 10 years. They are both skilled tradesmen in their own right, with Taylor a quali ed engineer and Callan a quali ed mechanic. Since joining Colin Holmes Hydraulics, Colin has worked closely with them both to extend their knowledge of hydraulic engineering. Colin says he has a really good client base of predominantly mining industry clients. With three trucks set up for mobile service and on-call 24/7, the majority of Colin Holmes Hydraulics’s work is completed on site. “Speed of service is critical in our business. We are set up to ensure we can get our clients back up and running as quickly as possible.” A brand new workshop built in the past 12 months, with engineering bay, hydraulic repair bay, and machine shop, has expanded the rm’s capabilities for longer term projects and repairs. with major civil contractors to deliver the earth- works scope on a wide variety of large civil projects. Its civil engineering construction capability spans road construction projects like the Pike River access road and the Blackball Road access to the recently opened Paparoa Track, and infrastructure projects like the Invercargill City Council sewage treatment ponds completed with Downer, through to concrete stream crossing structures for Solid Energy. Rosco Contractors retains concrete construction capability through Rosco’s son Craig, who operates C Moore Building in Nelson and the West Coast. Rosco Contractors offers a full service to quarry owners from development to drill and blast, quarry operation, materials processing with mobile crush- ing and screening units, and transport to market. “Part of our versatility is bulk materials trans- port,” Dave says. “We cart coal, gravel, fertiliser, and other bulk materials on a regular basis.” From mini excavators to 100 tonne bulldozers, Rosco Contractors has the equipment to handle all earthmoving and materials handling jobs on farms, big and small. Over the years the firm has completed many river protection works for farmers and other clients. Most of Rosco Contractors’ plant fleet is available for hire either wet including operators and fuel, or dry for both short and long term hire periods. “The completion of work on time, on budget, with no harm to people or the environment is what we commit to with every one of our clients,” Dave says. “We have the leadership, skill, people, plant, and management systems to make every project we engage in a success.”
