The new area is 210m² larger than the origi- nal offices and will accommodate 45 staff. It includes seven meeting rooms, five for staff/public use, and two interview rooms in its foyer which also has two kiosks where customers will be able to access the council’s online services. Other features include audio visual systems in all the meeting rooms and air conditioning. The formerly tired interior is now a pleas- ant, bright and spacious environment for both staff and visitors. It’s design includes accents of colour balanced with timber elements, while the exterior features woodgrain-style composite cladding around the first floor. “It will keep its appearance for a number of years as opposed to something like cedar that needs regular maintenance.” Ajax Building Contractors employs 22 trade staff including six apprentices, and operates seven two or three person crews which in- cludes a full-time crew at Fonterra’s Edendale plant. “We usually have one to two big commercial jobs happening at a time.” The company is currently undertaking two other large projects for the Gore District Coun- cil, a major redevelopment to the Hokowhitu Moonshine Museum and Visitors Centre and construction of the town’s new membrane filtration water treatment plant.
