| 51 Dunedin: Naylor Love - Dunedin Naylor Love Dunedin has been involved in numerous prominent construction and restoration projects in the city across a variety of sectors. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT DBC Building Services has an impressive track record for completing numerous large-scale projects throughout the South Island. Founder David Browne built from scratch the fully New Zealand-owned company which provides a wide variety of services to the construction industry, main contractors and its valued clients. DBC has grown to a multi-specialized business, o ering heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, drainage, sheet metal fabrication, medical gases, pool water services, maintenance and 3D design services to many commercial and domestic businesses. The company’s Dunedin branch is managed by Dónn Casey, who says its contracts are not necessarily won on price alone, the ability to deliver a quality result is often a key factor. The standard of work relies heavily on a skilled and stable workforce. The company employs up to 90 sta in Dunedin alone. This workforce is highly multicultural, with sta drawn from 10 di erent nations. “We do consider ourselves the best in Dunedin and in the local area. We are a very large local employer, and we are here for our clients long-term. I think we do give a very good level of service.” To achieve this stability DBC makes a considerable investment in training and future-proo ing and currently employs 11 apprentices and two intern quantity surveyors. The company's ability to manufacture items it supplies and to be a one stop shop creates e iciencies and streamlines processes while also creating more control from the start to completion of each project. Dónn believes this contributes to the solid relationship DBC has with reputable construction irms such as Naylor Love and others. DBC handles everything from a full design to supplying, installation and construction, to managing building consents for the services it provides. While some projects might need only a small number of core tradesmen, DBC has the lexibility to draw on more sta if they are needed. This creates considerable capacity on the larger projects the company is often a major sub-contractor on. DBC has been involved in many prestigious projects in Dunedin, including Otago University $50 million-plus Eccles Building research facility, containing some of the most sophisticated building plant in the Southern Hemisphere. The company is a major sub-contractor to Naylor Love for the polytechnic's $31.7 million trades training centre along with various other contracts throughout the regions. Dónn is proud of DBC Dunedin's economic impact and strong local support, thus returning earning’s back into the local community. DBCs preferred option is to shop locally and where possible have product manufactured in its fabrication shop, consequently reducing the carbon footprint of its projects in the process.
