Kiwis quickly fell in love with this giant taste of happiness, and the love affair has been ongoing. The Original Chocolate Chunk Cookie was the first cookie designed and marketed for individual sale in New Zealand, creating a new category of individually wrapped cookies that Cookie Time still leads to this day. Cookie Time has found its place as New Zealand’s top selling cookies brand, and most trusted cookies brand. Cookie Time Ltd (CTL) has amassed an iconic portfolio of treat, snack and functional foods, including Cookie Time cookies and Christmas Cookies; Bumper Bars; the patented OSM brand; and Em’s Power Bars and Cookies. Smart entrepreneurship, innovation and ingenuity are driving forces for CTL, delivering on the business vision — a taste for every occasion, a smile on every face. In New Zealand, CTL’s 53 franchised distributors handle all stock delivery, merchandising and marketing to supermarkets, dairies and service stations nationwide, and is ranked New Zealand’s number one FMCG distributor, taking out the top spot in the 2021 and 2022 Coalface Consulting combined channel stores rankings. CTL also gives back to the community, through the Cookie Time Charitable Trust, founded in 2003 to help New Zealand children discover their gifts. Remaining a family owed business, CTL is headquartered in Christchurch, where it also has its bakery and bakery shop. What commenced as a good idea selling delicious cookies into local dairies, now boasts exports to over 10 countries, and operates Cookie Time Cookie Bars in Queenstown, Dunedin and in Japan, as well as online stores munchtime.co.nz and cookiebar.jp. “Our people are the heart of our business, the powerhouse for growth and success,” says General Manager Lincoln Booth. “We’ve got an amazing bunch of Cookie Timers working towards a common goal and absolutely committed to making a difference. Our values – ‘Big Hearts, Open Minds, Positive Actions’, absolutely underpin our business and our culture runs very deep. “We’ve invested heavily in our culture, and in empowering our people to be the very best they can be. “CTL is driven by entrepreneurial spirit, powered by grit and determination and a willingness to give things a go. “We believe there’s always room for improvement, and we always look for opportunity in a crisis. If something doesn’t work out we’re very quick to pivot and move on. Courage is a big driver for our business and we work as one team in figuring out what we need to do — in the words of Sir Peter Blake, how do we make the boat go faster?” Lincoln acknowledges that CTL’s 40th is a major milestone and testament to the creation of a successful and iconic Kiwi company, that is still family owned. “We went big for the 40th occasion, releasing a giant version of our famous Original™ Chocolate Chunk Cookie. “With Cookie Time famed for its large cookies and generous chocolate chunks, our birthday mantra was go big or go home. “The special edition 120g cookie, 40% bigger than the Original, brought this to life.” Cookie Time Co-Founder and Managing Director Guy Pope-Mayell and Creative Lead Suzanne Pope-Mayell also went on a national roadtrip to visit CTL’s franchisees to commemorate the occasion and give them a sneak peak of the second big 40th product release. The second release saw Cookie Time break into a new treat category with two flavours of Cookie Time Cookie Sandwiches, which proved an immediate best-seller, setting a new record as most successful novelty/singles ice cream launch ever. CTL is in major growth mode, with new markets, new countries, new channels and ongoing product innovation. “We’re leveraging our great relationship with Costco throughout the globe, and welcoming opportunities to explore new product formats and occasions. “In New Zealand our franchised distribution network have been our shining stars through Covid.” “We’ve invested heavily in our culture, and in empowering our people to be the very best they can be.”
