From a small start in 2014 based on its hire business, 2 Tyre Tracks and Hire has grown to offer a comprehensive range of high-end forestry equipment including sales and service of Satco, Ponsse, plus HIAB truck mounted cranes for the wider transport industry. Located in Kinloch Street, Prestonville, 2 Tyre Tracks and Hire employs five staff and its hire shop offerings include six excavators, skid-steer loaders and a wide variety of forestry, commercial and residential hire equipment. Sales and service to the forestry industry is now a significant part of the business, with the equipment available involving a large financial investment on the part of clients as well 2 Tyre Tracks and Hire which supports sales with after sales service, training, parts and ongoing servicing. “It’s been very good for business, it’s a constant source of work,” Brett says. “It creates work and it gives a reason to be on site which generates more work as it provides the opportunity to meet customers on site and to help understand their needs. “ We’ve got some great customers and you just want to go the extra mile and help them.” Some forestry machinery can cost in excess of $1 million. “It’s significant gear, it’s a big investment; it’s market leading equipment that we’re bringing into the country. “We brought the first Ponsse equipment into New Zealand. We sold the first machine in 2019 and I think we are up to seven machines that we’ve sold since then. “It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s seven high end machines sold into a depressed [forestry] market. “We are pretty proud of what we’ve done actually. With that comes a remarkable investment, we’ve invested in stocking the parts to support our logging clients; you’ve got to support the ones who support you.” 2 Tyre Tracks and Hire are also the HIAB agent from Timaru south, including central Otago and provides a trained mobile team ready to respond to every need.
