Selwyn Drainage has recently evolved out of the long-standing McKay Moore Drainage, also based in Selwyn for about 30 years. McKay Moore Drainage is now concentrating on civil and commercial drainage with Marcus Moore selling the residential side of his business to his long-term employees Dane Willis and Jared Buckley. Dane started as an apprentice drain layer straight out of school for McKay Moore Drainage in 2005. He had great tradesmen to learn from which set a solid standard for his work while achieving his qualifications, as well as the title of 2008 drain laying Apprentice of the Year. McKay Moore Drainage grew massively after the 2011 Canterbury earthquakes and Dane moved into a management role with a focus on training, overseeing staff , and building healthy relationships with clients, many of whom still work with Selwyn Drainage today. “After 17 years of drain laying in Canterbury, I am excited to be a business partner of Selwyn Drainage,” he says. “I look forward to working with our team and our clients to maintain a high standard of work and reliability for years to come.” Jared started his apprenticeship with McKay Moore Drainage in 2015. After working in the residential side of the business for almost three years, he broadened his drainage knowledge and experience by moving to the commercial and civil side of the business, becoming an authorised drain layer for Christchurch City Council. “Learning everything I could was important to me, and was made easy with the support of McKay Moore Drainage,” he says. Dane and Jared have hit the ground running with Selwyn Drainage and are future proofing their company to ensure they can provide the drainage services that are going to be needed both now, and in the future. Just as Jared became an authorised drain layer for Christchurch City Council, he is also authorised to install pressure sewer systems which are now required for a lot of new homes in Christchurch. Pressure sewer systems are installed for individual homes and collect household sewage before pumping it to the sewer mains in the street.
