Wilsons has been successful in delivering more than 100 homes back to the local housing stock after being brought up to post quake building code and renovated to a high standard. The success of these developments has seen Wilsons grow and branch out into new multi-unit developments as well as residential land subdivisions and commercial properties. Wilsons currently has three projects under construction. Nearing completion is a three townhouse development on Vogel Street in Richmond. These new homes are in a prime location on the outskirts of the Four Avenues, close to the Richmond Club and Stanmore Road New World, and within walking distance of the CBD. The Vogel Street units are due for completion in September, with the middle unit still available at this stage. “We’ve been very mindful of creating a product that stands out from the market,” says Wilsons finance and operations manager Pete Harding. “We didn’t want to create more one and two bedroom properties without garages. Vogel Street is a great example of spacious two and three bedroom units with garages, orientated to maximise outdoor living. The three bed units are 144sqm and 149sqm while the two bed unit is 120sqm. We’ve clad in aerated concrete panels with plaster, painted in a modern dark colour and added vertical cedar shiplap that really stands out.” Wilsons business and construction model enables the company to deliver a quality product at a price buyers might find surprising. Wilsons keeps overheads down with a team of three in the project management office while contracting out to skilled construction partners. “We are lucky to have strong relationships with our suppliers and sub-contractors, we don’t waste time or resources, and we can pass this value on to our buyers,” says Wilsons project manager Shaun Hepburn. “We get the guys that know what they’re doing, and that’s why we’re able to bring these homes to market for less than $700,000. Christchurch is still undervalued and we’re getting a lot of interest from other New Zealand locations, and the local market is really strong.” Other exciting opportunities include the Glasgow Street development consisting of five three-bedroom units and Armagh Street which boasts eight three-bedroom units and two two-bedroom units. All units in these developments have internal garages. Glasgow Street is due for completion in October while Armagh Street broke ground this month and will be ready in April next year. Wilsons is also working on a significant renovation at a Barrington Street property where the company has bought a commercial premises with residential units above it. The next stage of expansion is the development of 75 residential subdivision lots across two sites with more in the pipeline. “It’s a very exciting time for us,” says Pete. “We absolutely love Christchurch, our development partners, and our customers. We have a great product that will offer buyers and investors the best money can buy.”
