It’s transitioning from a town into a city and has got critical mass with facilities such as large shopping centres, big schools and supermarkets, retirement villages and medical centres. “Queenstown is also attractive to the Australian market with direct flights daily.” Triple Star Management has a number of projects underway including five projects all coming out of the ground around hotspot Arrowtown. Also underway is what Peter thinks is probably the largest residential house build in the country at the moment. With a massive 2500sqm floorprint plus a separate building of 700sqm the build has necessitated the use of a 50m-tower crane. “It’s a very modern design with a lot of in situ concrete work. It has a very detailed interior fitout that we’re working closely with a well-known New Zealand film studio on. The exterior of the building is largely clad in a dark aluminium cladding and it essentially looks like a futuristic space ship landed in a field,” explains Peter. Triple Star Management had its beginnings in 2008 in response to the growing demand from international homeowners and investors for a reliable and experienced single point of contact for all their construction needs in Queenstown and the surrounding Central Otago area. It is now owned by a group of employees who manage key areas of the business with Peter Campbell, Mark Davies and Will Kemp as company directors. Triple Star Management currently employs a team of around 50 carpenters and a support office of 11 staff. Peter says the company is always looking for more skilled people to join the team and can offer work on a diversity of projects predominantly at the upper end of the market. “Our staff get to work with good materials, great designs and on fantastic sites,” says Peter. Creating a real team atmosphere is a priority. Staff is provided with warm clothing and sites are generally shrink-wrapped to ensure a dry, comfortable working environment. Peter says this also results in certainty around programme and a higher quality end product. Triple Star Management has an active social club within company, arranging activities and hosting barbeques in the yard once a month to get everyone together. Triple Star Management’s projects have won numerous New Zealand Master Builder House of the Year and New Zealand Institute of Architects awards including the 2020 New Zealand Master Builders National Supreme House of the Year Award for Houses Over $2m for a project at Closeburn Station designed by Mason & Wales Architects. The same project has also just won the 2023 NZIA award. The 890sqm home comprises five pavilions built around a sheltered entrance and forecourt including a main wing, family wing, garage with a loft providing additional guest accommodation and a main bedroom wing with ensuite. It has six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a gym and took 18 months to build. “Our Closeburn build was a huge team effort and we are very fortunate to be working with such a passionate and talented project team.”
