Jones and Cooper’s commitment to the project was significant, with up to 12 of its 16 trade staff working on it, supported by about 12 sub trades. The result is a vibrant, contemporary, multi-purpose building that includes community meeting rooms and great spaces for the library staff, bookworms and researchers to enjoy for decades to come. “We are really pleased with how it’s come out. It’s a great space. It’s improved the functionality of that building that much it will be well used for another 50 years.” The project has also been given the ‘royal’ seal of approval by Fred. “He’s pretty pleased with it actually, he’s quite chuffed. He came along to the opening to see it. I was 10 years old when [the James Cumming Wing] opened the first time. They had me and [then Prime Minister] Norman Kirk on the stairs.”
