Box 80237, Green Bay, Auckland Proud to be Suppliers of the Mechanical Services at Oceania Healthcare LIFESTYLE Oceania Healthcare: Armitage Williams - Woodlands Oceania’s Woodlands Village has expanded with an extension providing 14 new care suites, enhancing this Motueka Village which offers both retirement and aged care living. Woodlands is a boutique village that encompasses a care centre with a total capacity of 57 beds and provides rest home and hospital level care. The care centre comprises a range of standard care rooms as well as premium care suites. The configuration of the care suites is flexible and can cater for either rest home or hospital level care. Surrounding the care centre are 32 two-bedroom villas and a main community centre designed for retirement living. The architectural design of Woodlands care centre underwent careful consideration during its construction which was undertaken by Christchurch-based company Armitage Williams. Oceania project manager Wilson Pickering says TEAM architects demonstrated thoughtful attention by seamlessly integrating the addition into the existing structure, ensuring harmony and a commanding presence on Woodlands Edgewood Crescent location. “This expansion revitalised the facility by introducing larger, fully ensuited care suites that cater to contemporary care needs. Within, the interior exudes a welcoming and comfortable ambiance, characterised by a tasteful contemporary aesthetic, providing a nurturing environment for its residents.” “Offering the additional care suites enables us to meet the increasing needs of both the region and community. The upgrades not only improve the physical aspects of Woodlands but also creates connectivity and an environment that further encourages socialisation, engagement, and a sense of belonging for everyone, he says. Each new care suite has its own outdoor patio, heat pump, ensuite and kitchenette with a fridge and kettle making them perfect for when friends and family come to visit. The new configuration makes it easier for staff and residents to move through the building and has created a sheltered, sunny internal courtyard. The courtyard features beautifully landscaped gardens and seating areas that provide the opportunity for residents to enjoy some Tasman sun and to relax in the tranquil outdoor environment. For active residents who are looking to venture further, the village is adjacent to Thorps Bush and Tasman’s beaches which provides the opportunity to enjoy a pleasant outdoor stroll amongst nature. Armitage Williams have successfully completed projects for Oceania in various locations, and the demolition and extension at Woodlands presented distinct complexities and challenges due to the need to work within a fully operational care centre, Wilson says. “They demonstrated proficiency in operating within an active environment, which played a significant role in the project’s success.” Woodlands manager Loralei Pegg says the village caters to the local community, so residents in and around Motueka do not have to move far when their lifestyle or needs change. “It means people can stay where they’ve lived for most of their life. We focus on ensuring that we provide a welcoming environment where our residents feel at home. “It’s warm, it’s cosy, our team members are friendly; we call the residents our family.” The introduction of an indoor walking loop has been particularly well-received by the residents. Previously, navigating the space was a bit cumbersome, resembling a complex ‘x’ shape. However, the new circuit layout has brought about a welcomed change, allowing residents to enjoy their walks even when it’s raining.
