New facility a showcase of innovation T T Richard Loader Stack-iT REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Innovation, smart engineering and design, are key factors that have positioned storage solutions specialist Stack-iT at the forefront, and the company’s new premises will be a showcase of what it can deliver to its customers. Located in Christchurch’s Belfast Business Park, the new purpose-built facility was fully operational in March. Featuring Stack-iT’s Integrated Racking Structure (IRS) system, the new building incorporates 800sqm of high stud warehouse, surrounded on two sides with a massive 700qsm canopy, allowing for trucks to drive right around the building under cover. Two levels of offices encompassing 180m2 complete the package. “We believe there is always a better way to do something, and this new building will be a showcase of innovation, smart engineering and design,” says the company’s founder and General Manager Quintin Bruce. “The key difference with this building is the IRS, a system that we have developed to increase construction efficiency, combined with increased efficiency in space utilisation once built.” Traditionally, clients engage a building company to design-and-build a shed and once finished engage a racking company to install another rack structure within the shed. “With IRS, you get the whole solution in one package,” explains Quintin. “The racking is engineered into the structure of the building, providing significant savings in steel and space. For example, with a traditional portal building the portals often intrude 400mm-500mm into the warehouse space and then racking engineers specify a structure clearance of 300mm inside that. In practice you can lose up to ten percent of warehouse space due to the double structure. With IRS, because the racking forms part of the structure there is no wastage of space.” Other key advantages include the requirement of only one building consent across the whole project. Once the building is signed off the building becomes a certified storage system ready to use. IRS is also a very simple modular system with a very fast build time, particularly with a mono-pitch canopy or shelter, typically used in drive through timber yards. “We already have numerous clients right across the country who are very keen to come and have a look around this great new facility as a working model so they can appreciate the benefits available in their own businesses. “The new facility will give us an opportunity to showcase those benefits first hand, and we’re really encouraging our clients to come in and walk around.” Family owned and operated, Stack-iT was established in 2011 and has grown steadily to become nationally recognised as a leading supplier of innovative storage solutions, and the only provider of the IRS system. Stack-iT’s product range covers everything from plastic storage bins and retail shelving units through to moulding racks, workbenches, pallet racking and very heavy duty cantilever yard racking, with orders consistently delivered to businesses all over New Zealand. IRS is the jewel in the company’s crown. “The IRS system is a classic example of how Stack-iT has taken traditional thinking and developed a more efficient and cost effective solution through innovative engineering design, and smart methodology in the way we install. We appreciate our busy clients are always looking for a business advantage and Stack-iT can provide that with the IRS system. We can take our clients pain points and provide a solution that deals with the pain and hassle all in one go, our customers trust us to deliver a turn key solution from design right through to certification.” Stack-iT has a strong presence in the building supplies sector, as well as aluminium, steel and plastic distributors and fabricators. “We’re really selling organisation to large and small businesses, whether it is a full IRS system, or a workbench. We have a reputation in the market that we will do a very good job, and come up with the best solution at a fair price. Building customer relationships, repeat business and referrals have also been key to our success.”
