TRANSPORT McNeilly Heavy Haulage T T Kelly Deeks Specialising in over-weight and over-dimension transport solutions, McNeilly Heavy Haulage is the close-knit team of highly experienced and qualified experts who can be trusted to get your precious cargo safely to its next destination. Mark McNeilly started McNeilly Heavy Haulage in 2019 after two decades of nationwide heavy haulage experience. Now operating out of Timaru and Dunedin, his company will move anything over-weight and over-dimension for the wind and hydro-generation and power sector, the construction, mining, and forestry industries, and is the local specialist for moving homes and buildings anywhere in the South Island. Mark got his grounding in the industry with Fulton Hogan’s heavy haulage division, and only started his own company when the major contractor pulled out of the local market. “I wasn’t ready to hang my boots up just yet,” Mark says. “I enjoy shifting houses and Fulton Hogan had left a gap for me to fill, and customers who needed someone to carry on.” McNeilly Heavy Haulage moves about 50 buildings every year, about half of them new builds and half relocatable second-hand homes. “You name it, we’ve moved it,” Mark says. “From second-hand houses to historical homes, new prefab houses, kit-set homes, baches and cribs.” With in-house certified Class 1 and Class 2 load pilots, Bridge Engineering Self Supervision (BESS) certified drivers, and bringing more than 50 years of combined experience to every move, customers biggest and often most valuable assets are in safe hands with McNeilly Heavy Haulage. The company has recently been entrusted with the move of the historic Queenstown Arts Centre building from Stanley Street to the Country Lane retail village at Frankton. This building was originally part of Queenstown’s first high school and has been a landmark on Stanley Street for about 100 years. McNeilly Heavy Haulage shifted the wooden building in two sections over two days, placing it on its new piles ready for its next incarnation as a local arts hub. Mark says when shifting buildings, customers should do their homework because while it can be cost-effective, there are always a lot of variables. Key considerations should be the size and condition of the building, access at both sites, and the proposed route between the two. So much planning goes into McNeilly Heavy Haulage’s projects, that sometimes Mark and the team will be route planning and applying for consents and permits a full two years prior to a move taking place. Other expenses will include the building consent, connection of services, and a builder to set out the foundations and do any renovations. For those wanting to remove a house to free up their building site, offering it for free can often prove more viable than the cost of demolition and landfill. McNeilly Heavy Haulage is now looking forward to servicing the recovering forestry sector after months of cut back quotas. “When they’re not cutting wood, we’re not moving their gear. We’re just hearing now that some crews are back up to 100%, so that’s really positive.” “I enjoy shifting houses and Fulton Hogan had left a gap for me to fill, and customers who needed someone to carry on.” Phone: 03 983 5500 waterfordpress.co.nz Your Business, Your Industry, Your News.
