BUSINESS BNZ Ashburton: Alaska Construction BNZ is full steam ahead with the refurbishment of its Ashburton Partners Centre branch as it focuses on improving the experience for its customers, while also supporting New Zealand businesses along the way. “We’re excited to transform our branch into a space that truly welcomes our customers,” says Miles Arulambalam, BNZ’s head of branch for Canterbury, Otago & Southland. The Ashburton refurbishment, which is expected to be completed by the end of August, is part of BNZ’s nationwide upgrade project, and will support local carpentry, electrical and finishing businesses (tiling & painting) as well as manufacturing, design, and construction firms across New Zealand, as BNZ partners with New Zealand businesses and manufacturers. “We want the benefits of this refresh to extend into the communities we serve. By choosing New Zealand suppliers and materials, we’re supporting domestic jobs and local economies, which we believe is especially important in the current economic climate,” Miles says. The refurbishment involves collaborations with a range of New Zealand businesses, including Maxwell Rodgers for sustainably sourced furniture fabric, Woodwrights for handcrafted furniture, and Critical Design for BNZ’s in-branch Welcome Hub countertops, made from recycled plastic. Another New Zealand supplier, Special Studio, will 3D print the new branch counter bases using 100% recycled plastic. Every countertop printed will save an estimated 40-50kg of waste from going to landfill. “We recognise that our choices have an impact on the environment, and we are committed to making responsible decisions that benefit our customers, our communities, and the planet,” Miles says. “The use of recycled materials, New Zealand wool, and locally sourced components, such as manufactured aluminium ceilings from New Plymouth, and MDF boards from Taupo, reflects our commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.” He says the refurbished branch and Partners Centre will offer a more welcoming service experience, with a range of flexible workspaces, a dedicated cash-assisted services counter and a secure ATM lobby. This is just one of a number of BNZ branches being refurbished as the bank invests in its local communities to improve the banking experience for its customers. To date, BNZ has refurbished branches in 11 centres.
