34 | REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Tasman: Waimea Group NZ Ltd T T Karen Phelps Group expands presence in NZ market The company’s commitment to water infrastructure aligns with United Nations sustainable development goals around clean water and sanitation, and complements Waimea Group’s existing work in power and energy sectors. “This sort of equipment operates like keyhole surgery, so rather than needing to dig up large areas, this equipment works by nondestructive digging.” Utility vehicle specialist Waimea Group is progressing ambitious expansion plans, including new premises and innovative equipment development, as it positions itself to support sustainable infrastructure across the Pacific region. The company has doubled its office space with a new building at its existing site, creating a head office that will centralise support services including finance, business systems, and innovation for operations across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific. “We have identified a need right across the Pacific for specialist assets supporting utility infrastructure, so we see the most efficient way to deliver that is centralising our business functions in one place to help us service current and future growth,” says Truan Bailey, managing director of Waimea Group. The expansion comes as the company intensifies its focus on enabling sustainable communities through reliable infrastructure. With over 1000 specialist vehicles operating across utility networks in the Pacific region, it has launched a significant product innovation programme specifically targeting water infrastructure challenges. Currently under development are three specialist vehicles: water jetter trucks for cleaning stormwater drains, a 3000-litre compact hydro excavator truck designed for services location in built-up areas, and an 8000-litre combination truck capable of both water jetting and hydro excavation. All three vehicles have been specially developed for the New Zealand market, with a dedicated compliance team ensuring all products meet Australian and New Zealand standards. “New Zealand needs this equipment we are developing to sort its water infrastructure issues. This sort of equipment operates like keyhole surgery, so rather than needing to dig up large areas, this equipment works by non-destructive digging,” explains Truan. He says the company’s commitment to water infrastructure aligns with United Nations sustainable development goals around clean water and sanitation, and complements Waimea Group’s existing work in power and energy sectors. This strategic focus is supported by what Truan describes as a unique business model in the New Zealand market. “What Waimea Group is offering is new in this country, a complete utility infrastructure model – manufacturing, sales, hire, lease, service and support through its life cycle. Nobody else in New Zealand has this eco-system wraparound offering.” A key differentiator is its approach to equipment availability. While specialist trucks typically have production lead times of around 18 months, Waimea Group makes speculative commitments two years in advance, significantly reducing waiting times for customers. Its flexible approach has proven particularly valuable for businesses entering the sector. For example, the company’s innovative financing options, including hire-to-buy schemes, have enabled operators to build equity in equipment as they trade, removing traditional barriers to entry in specialist vehicle acquisition. With a vision of achieving zero vehicle downtime within the utilities sector, Truan says that Waimea Group offers the largest rental fleet of specialist assets in New Zealand. The company serves various industries including power and energy, arborists, underground utilities, liquid waste, and road transport sectors. Truan stresses that network utilities are an essential component of everyday lives. “The majority of any community residents are dependent on network utilities for their day-to-day activities, including communications, electricity, water and gas supply, sewerage and stormwater systems, roads, together with the buildings, lines, pipes, towers and other structures associated with them. Network utilities are physical resources that must be carefully managed for the sustainable existence of any community.” Truan says as part of its growth journey, Waimea Group has also realigned its brand impact to reflect its crucial role in infrastructure development. “We recognised as a business, the next generation of employees want to work for an impact-driven brand. They want to know what we are doing to change the world as a business. So we have reviewed our brand and where it’s going.” The result is a targeted vision: “At Waimea Group, we power the people who underpin our community’s utility infrastructure. We enable sustainable communities to thrive on reliable infrastructure for a healthier and brighter tomorrow.” enduranz.co.nz 0800 115 584 Enquire About Turnkey Utility Maintenance Vehicles EQUIPPED TO PERFORM Business Computing | Managed IT Services | Cyber Security Cloud Services | Network Infrastructure Customised IT solutions, tailored to your speci c requirements.
