| 13 Whāriki Business Network: Koha Kai REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Koha Kai has established organic gardens in schools and now sells produce direct to the public. Other Koha Kai programmes teach students with disabilities skills such as safe operating processes in kitchens and managing hazards, alongside healthy cooking. Through the pathways they have developed, taking people from trainees to employees and to mentors for the next generation of students, Janice says the outcomes for Koha Kai students are incredible. “For some of these people there were expectations that they would never achieve anything. “We help people to realise their true potential, build their confidence and inspire them to achieve goals they never thought possible, giving them a developmental pathway to get there. They end up with real world skills, sometimes going from the lounge chair to various job opportunities and generating their own income so they live with purpose, with real friends and an independent life. “For Koha Kai everything we do is about creating equity in the community for people with disabilities.” “We help people to realise their true potential, build their confidence and inspire them to achieve goals they never thought possible.” At McCulloch + Partners we are a local business run by local people.
