ENGINEERING Anchor Engineering Anchor Engineering’s well-equipped workshop supports an experienced team and is well set up for training. “We employ four up and coming apprentices. Their learning of the trade is an essential part of our growing business and we run a full machine shop with stainless division, fabrication and welding.” Various components and individual pieces can be finished with precision, whether the requirement is for stainless steel or aluminium fabrication. From ship repairs to inspections, Anchor Engineering is a one-stop marine engineering shop with full capability for vessel refits. One of Anchor Engineering’s more recent projects involved the vessel Anaura Bay, renamed as Progress during its refit. Owned by Crusader Holdings Ltd, this vessel needed a substantial overhaul with Anchor Engineering carrying out the work over six months. The complete refit included fitting a new gantry, hull work, freezer and wheel house modifications, new handrails, anchor and foredeck repairs. The vessel was designed as a side hauler, so the fish bag could be hauled aboard over the side of the vessel. For the refit, this meant having to cut off the entire gantry and designing a brand new replacement. Photos, taken before and after the overhaul, show the magnitude of workmanship that has gone into adapting and modifying the vessel to the standard it is at today. Progress was designed for inshore fishing; the improvements mean the vessel is now more efficient and can land a higher quality of fish to market. Anchor Engineering has developed strong working relationships with many customers over the past 20 years and is experienced in servicing the marine engineering needs of both private boat owners and larger companies in Port Nelson and surrounding areas. The company’s clientele has grown substantially to include smaller pleasure boats to larger commercial vessels, sawmills, schools and food industry businesses. Engineering services have evolved in line with demand. “Every job is different but we focus on getting the job done quickly, professionally and efficiently.
