Since the 1980s, Bleeker and Weith has provided comprehensive design, fabrication, and manufacturing from a fully equipped machine shop with the latest precision equipment and test facilities. Using only the highest grade materials, Bleeker and Weith is proud to provide structural, light, and heavy fabrication over a wide range of industries including transport, agriculture, fishing, manufacturing, and food processing. Its team of qualified engineering specialists have years of experience and a unique and diverse range of capabilities, so Bleeker and Weith is well known for being able to turn its hand to anything. James and Sharleen Forrest bought the business in 2018 and James says the company’s reputation for delivering successful projects to its customers’ satisfaction was backed up by a positive workplace culture which had everyone getting on both personally and professionally. “The guys are friends, so they’ll chip in and help each other out and give their mate a hand, and if there are any issues they can actually talk things through,” James says. Six team members worked through Covid lockdown last year, supporting different essential manufacturing sites in South Canterbury. Since lockdown, James says the manufacturing, food processing, and agriculture industries are all featuring highly in Bleeker and Weith’s workload. Kelly Deeks “The guys are friends, so they’ll chip in and help each other out and give their mate a hand, and if there are any issues they can actually talk things through.” Bleeker and Weith works on projects outside of South Canterbury as its customers require, and has been completing engineering projects for Te Kano Estate vineyards and winery at Kurow since completing initial set up works when the business was established. A recent project has seen Bleeker and Weith design, fabricate, then install building access and walkways systems to the winery, fabricating at the workshop in Timaru then installing on site. Bleeker and Weith has also worked on high end residential projects in Tekapo, providing architectural steel work, and in Wanaka, designing and fabricating bespoke front doors, one in brass and one in copper. James says one project led to another, which is usually the way Bleeker and Weith gets its residential projects, be it bespoke front doors or structural steel. “Word of mouth is a big one for us in architectural projects,” he says. “Someone will like what they see and ask who did it.” Bleeker and Weith is now focused on supporting local industry and finding ways to do what it does a bit more efficiently. “We’re following where the advances in welding go, and trying to keep up to date with it,” James says. He says multi-function machines are becoming more popular, and Bleeker and Weith has recently purchased a BOC Beast MIG welder, a more fuel efficient, quieter, and easier to use welder which also doubles as a generator.
