44 | Concrete Unlimited CONTRACTING Richard Loader Award caps memorable 12 months Nelson based Concrete Unlimited has taken out the Best Decorative Award, along with a Highly Commended Award, at the 2022 New Zealand Concrete Contractors Awards Winning the Best Decorative Award, along with a Highly Commended Award, at the 2022 New Zealand Concrete Contractors Awards was a proud moment for Ryan and Siobhan Berkett, who only started their business, Concrete Unlimited, a little over 12 months ago. “Achieving what we did after only a year in business was a bit surreal,” says Ryan. “You don’t think you’re going to get an award, but then you do, and all the hard work pays off.” Concrete Unlimited earned its Best Decorative Award for a challenging three-part pour, decorative black acid etched driveway, patio, pathways and stepping stones on a large residential project in Nelson Stretching throughout summer for parts 1 & 2, through to part 3 in autumn, it was challenging to make sure all sections matched. Access to the site was very difficult and with tradespeople congestion and fluctuating weather conditions, the challenges were remarkably overcome, resulting in a superb finished product that the Concrete Unlimited team could be proud of. “We had quite a bit of heat and wind to deal with. Nothing can go wrong with a three-part pour. The project that we got Highly Commended for was on a smaller scale. The owner gave me full creative rein on designing and creating the concrete around his property.” Ryan has been in the concrete industry for the best part of 17 years and has previously won four Best Decorative awards for projects that he managed, while working for someone else. His decision to establish his own business was based around creating a small operation with a tight focus on quality control, and valuing the hard work of his team. Entering the New Zealand Concrete Contractors awards provided Ryan and Siobhan an opportunity to showcase their new business and their craftsmanship. Along with being well qualified to do the work, they can now add ‘award winning’ to the resume, adding to their credibility. “We have gone from a team of two to a team of four and built up some great projects ranging from Stonewood Homes work to retirement villages to private residential projects. We’re getting quite well established in a very short period of time.” Based in sunny Nelson, the Concrete Unlimited team operate throughout the Nelson/ Tasman area and stretch into Marlborough. “We do anything from paths, driveways, floors, shed slabs, pool surrounds, — anything at all to do with concrete. We provide a range of stunning concrete finishes, textures and design options, as well as beautification services to re-master existing concrete placements. Decorative work really is our forte and we like different kinds of projects that challenge our abilities — that’s how you grow. Our team handles everything from design, boxing, pouring, placing, and finishing. We pride ourselves on quality craftsmanship. Keeping consistent, delivering a good job, and not letting people down has been key to our success to date.” While the work is labour intensive, physically challenging and requires long hours to get the job done to a very high standard, Ryan says maintaining a sense of humour has also been a key ingredient. “Achieving what we did after only a year in business was a bit surreal. You don’t think you’re going to get an award, but then you do, and all the hard work pays off.” Delivering the highest quality of concrete Experience the best in concrete with Nelson-Tasman's award-winning concrete specialists. 021 779 023 | concreteunlimited@outlook.co.nz www.concreteunlimited.co.nz Nelson’s Leading Concrete Supplier Proudly supporting Concrete Unlimited Call the team today for all your concrete needs.
