BUILDING Build Beyond It’s shaping up to be a busy year for trusted Wānaka building firm Build Beyond, with owner Jack Gibson using his expertise to help his clients the whole way through their projects, right from the initial scrap of an idea through to the handover of their beautiful new home. Build Beyond has been operating in Wānaka since 2020, with Jack building his way from Timaru through Twizel and eventually settling in Wānaka where he had always hoped to end up. Small projects turned into larger ones, and today Build Beyond builds two or three houses a year for clients, as well as a specbuild home. Jack now has five new-build projects already on the books for this year, one of which will see Build Beyond through to 2026, and two enquiries from people looking to start building next year. Jack likes to get involved from early on in the planning stages. “We have a three-way meeting with the architect and find out what the clients are wanting, work out a concept and some pricing and once they are happy, we go ahead with detailed plans for council.” Another enquiry coming into Build Beyond recently is for a first-time developer couple looking to build their first spec home, and with Jack’s construction experience, project-management experience, and knowledge of both the local market and council requirements, he’s aiming to walk them through a successful project that will see them become second-time developers as well. Build Beyond’s latest spec home is now for sale in Wānaka, and offers beautifully finished family living with enviable lake views. With his regular spec build, Jack watches the local real estate market closely. He was about to choose a section with no view when this one came to market complete with consented plans. “We jumped on it,” he says. “It’s really well placed for the views across the lake and over to Roys Peak and Black Peak, and the consented plans saved us about three months’ work.” Jack made some small changes to the plans, including adding a fourth bedroom, and was set to go. The sloping site however did require extensive initial site works and retaining walls. In order to make the most of this home and its spectacular outlook, Jack forwent his usual control over the interiors of his spec homes, and instead called on the local Stacey Anderson Design Studio, who provided a fantastic solution including custom kitchen and joinery manufactured by Jack’s regular supplier B&M Joinery Cromwell. Jack is thrilled with the result, the functional and intuitive layout of the home, and the street appeal, with landscaping by Build Beyond really setting this apart from its neighbours. “It’s got a decent-sized lawn and feature retaining walls with trees that stand out against the black colour of the house.” Inside, special features include full-length skylights in the bathroom with tiles running all the way up to the skylights for dramatic effect, and its fourth bedroom could be an office, giving the option for people to work from home. Open-plan living with floor-to-ceiling windows and decks either side makes the house feel very spacious and light. This project is a shining example of the quality Build Beyond can provide, and the wide range of finishing touches its clients can enjoy. 23 Gordon Road, Wanaka | Phone: (03) 443 1260 Email: wanaka.reception@aoteaelectric.co.nz For anything electrical, from Appliance repairs to Commercial builds.
