McB Building BUILDING Since setting up their company McB Building three and a half years ago, experienced builders Vaughan Bamford and Chris McClay have retained a hands-on approach to ensure all work meets their exacting standards and attention to detail. Both licensed building practitioners, providing peace of mind to clients, they offer a range of building services to clients across Christchurch, including new builds, extensions, renovations, retaining walls and landscaping. “We both really enjoy undertaking every step of a project from meeting clients and discussing their vision, planning and providing advice on consent issues, to delivering their project through to completion,” says Vaughan. Most of their work continues to come from word-of-mouth recommendations or repeat clients. “We are always excited to hear from new clients and are happy to come out and discuss a potential project and provide an estimate or quote on a free-of-charge, no-obligation basis.” McB Building specialises in work in the Port Hills, Lyttleton bays and eastern suburbs of Christchurch; however, Vaughan says that they are happy to take on work further afield. The partners have 25 years’ building experience under their tool belts. Chris, originally from the North Island, worked in construction roles in Australia and the UK before returning to New Zealand in 2005 to complete his carpentry qualifications and make Lyttelton harbour his home. Since then, he has worked on large-scale commercial projects, architectural new builds, passive eco homes, major renovations and even a wind turbine in Antarctica. Chris has a particular passion for restoring character properties, which have included a 400-year- old year house in England and three historic cottages of his own in Lyttelton and Christchurch. Vaughan grew up in Redcliffs and, like Chris, has worked across large and small projects. “My dad also has a successful business in the building industry, so you could say it runs in the blood and I have certainly learnt a lot from him over the years.” These days, the bulk of McB’s work is in residential builds and renovations, particularly kitchens and bathrooms, but they also have the maintenance contract with a large secondary school. Outside work, both Chris and Vaughan enjoy being involved in a range of outdoor, sporting and community activities. Vaughan is a passionate sailor, and for many years ran the youth sailing programmes at Christchurch Yacht Club. He also enjoys restoring and riding classic Indian motorcycles. Chris spent several years as a Lyttelton Sea Scout leader, and enjoys running, hiking and kayaking. McB has several projects planned for the early part of the year, but still has the capacity to take on some new work. Vaughan says he enjoys the variety of work that comes their way. “No two days are the same. There’s always challenges and a bit of problem solving involved, but that’s what makes it interesting, and it’s always great to find a solution that enhances or improves a client’s project or saves them money. But the most rewarding part for us is to hand over a new build or renovation project to a client and see how happy they are with GET IN TOUCH FOR ALL YOUR BUILDING NEEDS from New builds to Renovations and Repairs. info@mcbbuilding.co.nz +64 22 170 6127 mcbbuilding.co.nz Phone: 03 983 5500 waterfordpress.co.nz Your Business, Your Industry, Your News.
