T T to page 48 Dunedin-based developer builder TGC Homes Ltd has been awarded 8th place in the 2024 Deloitte Fast 50 index, a celebration of the fastest-growing businesses in New Zealand as determined by revenue growth percentage over the last three years. The company, which was founded by directors Charles Blair, George Hercus and Tom Nailard, also took the honour of being the highest-ranking Dunedin-based business in a decade at Deloitte’s Dunedin / Lower South Island regional competition. “We were shoulder tapped with the suggestion that we put an entry forward,” says Charles. “The process provided the opportunity to take the time to reflect on the business’s journey, really for the first time. That has been very good for us as a team to acknowledge what we have achieved. When you’re a young business and growing rapidly, you just don’t have a lot of time to reflect. It was also nice to meet and network with some other young, hungry business owners who were in the competition.” Charles attributes a significant amount of the company’s success to the unique but complementary skill sets of the three directors. A qualified accountant by trade, with experience in the finance sector, Charles’ strength lies in capital raising and cash-flow management. Tom’s background in the construction industry ensures that plans and building details are carefully examined, while George brings a background in engineering to the team, and also looks after the sales, marketing and legal functions of the business.
