T T Hugh de Lacy Our goal is to produce better environments and better returns for our clients, and if we do that we know we’ve done a really good job.” Landpro CONTRACTING Seeking innovative and practical solutions to achieve a commercial and environmental balance is the driving consideration for Cromwell-based land development company Landpro. Landpro and its staff of 65 cover all aspects of land development on every scale, from one- or two-lot projects up to a thousand lots. Its main Otago offices are in Cromwell and Wanaka, with other staff located in Canterbury and Southland, and it has a North Island office in Taranaki. “We’re a medium-sized land development company, and that allows us to tackle the smaller projects along with the big ones,” says chief executive Jason Harvey-Wills. “Our goal is to produce better environments and better returns for our clients, and if we do that we know we’ve done a really good job.” Landpro covers the full range of land development services, mapping, measuring and analysing land with aerial and spatial surveys which it then translates into planning, resource and farm management plans. It has been involved in more than 400 two- to 10-lot subdivisions, mostly around Central Otago. “On the bigger scale, we’re working on the fantastic 350-lot Pembroke subdivision in Wanaka, and we’ve just completed the very popular 175-lot Prospectors’ Park subdivision in Cromwell, to which we’ll now be adding a further 80 lots with the Freeway subdivision,” Jason says. “We’re also currently working on the exciting early designs for the larger Parkburn development between Cromwell and Wanaka that could be in the vicinity of 500 lots, re-developing an end-of-life quarry into a residential and canal development expanding on the lifestyle theme offered at places like Pisa Moorings and Pauanui.” To efficiently survey large areas of land – and under water – Landpro employs its own Navajo twin-engined aircraft and leases three other planes, all supported by drones for smaller-scale work. “The aircraft and drones allow us to take on such work as 3-D mapping and high-resolution imagery for existing and as-built areas destined for development. “We have just finished mapping a large part of Hawke’s Bay for LINZ (Land Information New Zealand), and we’re currently surveying the Hutt River to help in defence analysis against flooding. “We have our own in-house GIS (Geographic Information Systems) team translating the data from the planes and surveys, and combining it with other data to layer up systems. This allows clients to analyse sites in a better way, and make informed decisions on development strategy,” Jason says. Landpro has one of the South Island’s largest regional- and urban-planning teams supporting the survey side of the business, turning maps and survey information into consents and approvals that allow developments to become reality. Be it urban or rural subdivision, Landpro’s planners help clients to navigate the regulatory and commercial complexities to reach strategic solutions. Landpro was founded 18 years ago by Kate Scott and Kath Hooper, and working alongside them as the company’s third director is Mike Borthwick, who is also in charge of aerial surveying services. “We produce fast, accurate and reliable data that produce strong outcomes for our clients,” Jason says.
