The location and amazing views make it all worthwhile though,” says Jamie. Regardless of whether it’s an entry-level apartment, a high-end house, or one of the renovation jobs they take on to fill any gaps in the schedule, the Howe Construction team has the skills and experience to turn clients’ vision into reality, working hard to ensure everyone enjoys the process on the way through. T T Virginia Wright “Site set-up, dig out, retaining, foundations, overall engineering and logistics involved even before one slab is down. The location and amazing views make it all worthwhile though.” Jamie Howe, who set up Howe Construction Ltd in Queenstown in 2015 with a small crew contracting out to other construction companies, still loves being on site more than anything, especially driving the diggers. Much has changed in the last nine years for Jamie, who has over 20 years’ experience in the industry. He now has an 18-strong team, including his highly trusted foremen, qualified carpenters and five apprentices, as well Sara Lamb, who backs him up, running the operations behind the scenes. Team culture is an important aspect of Howe Construction, and team dynamics are always evolving. The team consists of many different nationalities, many of whom have been with the company for several years or more, resulting in a tight-knit crew, explain Jamie and Sara. “Everyone works in well together, and we work in closely with the clients as well. At the end of the day, we’ve always got the best interests of the clients at heart, and we’ll do our best to achieve what they’re hoping for,” Jamie says. Howe Construction’s clients vary, from those who simply hand over the plans and leave them to it, to those who prefer to be involved every step of the way. “We even have clients who enjoy getting stuck in alongside the team getting their hands dirty and working up a sweat!” says Jamie. The Howe Construction team likes nothing more than a challenging hillsite to work on, and the extra dimension of problem solving that it takes. They are generally involved from the beginning, whether it is from the initial dig-out, or from the early concept design stage starting from absolute scratch. “Over the many years Jamie has been living in Queenstown he has built up great relationships with his sub-trades, architects and engineers, who are all so critical to a smooth-running project,” explains Sara. To keep everyone busy, they usually have three or four projects going at once, such as the two-year, high-end renovation on a penthouse in Queenstown, which is nearly complete. “We are super excited to get this project across the line and see the end result, and the clients have been fantastic to deal with throughout the whole process,” says Jamie. They also have two quite different apartment complexes in progress for the same developer, with whom they have a long-standing relationship. The three, two-unit apartments in Cromwell are a relatively straightforward build of entry-level apartments on an easy, flat site. Many of them will be rented out, having been designed with the region’s continued growth mind. EXPERTS IN ALL MASONRY WORK.
