Ben says they are progressing well on site and have been managing to maintain the construction programme, providing confidence the project will remain on track, all the while keeping operations running well throughout the upgrade. The facility continues to operate throughout the upgrade, thanks to careful planning and staging. It means both Fire and Emergency New Zealand and St John’s operational assets and staff are operating from the rear Resource Garage on site. The project has been staged over two separate areas to allow the existing site to remain operational during the construction period. Maintaining service continuity has been a priority, ensuring the community remains fully protected during the upgrade. For the Twizel Volunteer Fire Brigade and the wider community, the refurbishment represents an investment in safety, resilience, and local capability. “The Twizel Volunteer Fire Brigade and community will have a fit-for-purpose and compliant building to operate from and to assist in their delivery of services to the surrounding areas.” A modern, well-equipped station also supports recruitment and retention, which is an increasingly important focus as Twizel continues to grow. Once complete, the building will continue its long-standing shared occupation with St John, reinforcing the strong partnership between the two emergency services. The upgraded station is expected to be fully operational by the end of June 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for emergency services in Twizel.
