48 | Helping to avoid costly breakdowns MBS’s predictive maintenance programmes are built around the principle of delivering “the right information at the right time”. Motor Bearing Specialists T T Kelly Deeks CONTRACTING Motor Bearing Specialists (MBS) is taking its predictive maintenance capability to a new level, forging international partnerships and strengthening its in-house expertise to deliver world-class solutions for New Zealand industry. The South Canterbury-based company, with an additional branch in Morrinsville, has recently strengthened its allegiances with Mobius Institute and RONDS, while welcoming international reliability expert Gustavo Gomes to its growing team. MBS director Rodney Bell says these developments mark a major step forward for MBS and its customers across the country’s agriculture, timber, marine, water/wastewater, petrochemical, mining, commercial construction, food manufacturing, power generation, and resorts industries. “These partnerships mean our customers will have access to the most advanced predictive maintenance training, monitoring technology, and expertise available anywhere in the world,” Rodney says. “We’re combining the best of global innovation with our on-the-ground experience to keep New Zealand plants running safely and efficiently.” As official resellers for the Mobius Institute’s internationally recognised training programmes, MBS can now provide both online and face-to-face certification courses across a range of specialisations, including Vibration Analysis (Category I–III), Infrared Thermography, Field Lubrication, and Asset Reliability. MBS engineer Adam Bell has also been approved as a Mobius Institute Trainer for Ultrasound Analysis Category I, further extending the company’s training capabilities. Founded in Australia more than 20 years ago, Mobius Institute is known globally for its education-based approach to reliability improvement, offering practical training that builds confidence, competence, and consistency across maintenance teams. Rodney says aligning with Mobius is a natural fit for MBS, whose predictive maintenance programmes are built around the principle of delivering “the right information at the right time”. “Our focus is always on helping clients move from reactive maintenance to predictive maintenance,” he says. “By understanding equipment condition and acting before a failure occurs, we can prevent costly breakdowns, improve plant safety, and extend equipment life.” In another major development, MBS has been appointed the New Zealand distributor for RONDS, a leading AI-driven industrial technology company listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. RONDS provides wireless and hard-wired 24/7 online monitoring systems and its SuperCare software platform, which uses AI algorithms to detect and predict faults in real time. The RONDS system integrates vibration, temperature, and other condition data to provide continuous insight into machine health, reducing unplanned downtime and optimising maintenance planning. Rodney says the technology fits perfectly within MBS’s predictive maintenance framework. “The RONDS system takes condition monitoring to the next level,” he says. “It allows continuous online monitoring and analysis that complements our vibration, thermal imaging, balancing, and laser alignment services. “It’s about giving clients complete visibility and control over their equipment performance.” Adding further depth to the company’s technical capability, Gustavo Gomes brings more than 30 years of international experience in reliability engineering, maintenance optimisation, and Industry 4.0 transformation. Gustavo’s career has spanned global operations with SKF, Vale, Maersk, and ArcelorMittal, and he holds advanced qualifications in vibration analysis, maintenance engineering, and business management. Rodney says Gustavo’s appointment, alongside the new partnerships with Mobius and RONDS, sets MBS up for its strongest chapter yet. “With Gustavo on board and these powerful global connections, MBS is positioned better than ever to help New Zealand industries maximise uptime, reduce costs, and make reliability a cornerstone of their operations,” he says.
