16 | DEVELOPMENT Tricroft Properties Hub an exciting addition for Ashburton Kim Newth River Crossing in Ashburton is poised to further transform the southern area of the town. River Crossing, a brand new shopping and hospitality precinct under construction, is providing a $23 million investment in the Mid Canterbury community and is poised to further transform the southern area of the town on the corner of Cass and South Streets. Ashburton-based property investment business Tricroft is proud to be bringing River Crossing to town as a whole new retail/hospitality hub for the Mid Canterbury community, as well as providing a great destination for travellers from further afield. The River Crossing name is inspired by the site’s history dating back to the mid-1800s when the only way across the river was by ferry. An accommodation house and ferry station once stood on the east bank where this major new precinct is now taking shape. Joining anchor attraction Kmart at River Crossing will be Couplands Bakery (relocating from East Street), Tank Juice and St Pierre’s Sushi, (with space remaining for one more hospitality operator). More exciting tenancies in an additional building include Coffee Culture, Spice Traders Indian Restaurant, Sal’s Pizza and Joe’s Garage. The precinct also provides a great business ownership opportunity as local franchise operators are being recruited for Coffee Culture, Sal’s Pizza and Joe’s Garage. “We’re delighted with the selection of hospitality operators coming to River Crossing,” says Tricroft General Manager Tony Gilbert. “For Spice Traders, this will be their first venture into the South Island. Sal’s Pizza is a well-known brand that started in New York and now well-established in New Zealand with other South Island franchises located in Canterbury, Nelson, Otago and Queenstown.” Tricroft founder David Williams first began investing in the Ashburton district in the 1970s and is passionate about supporting and enhancing the local community. “He has long wanted to improve this older industrial area and make it more appealing for the community. At the moment a lot of local retail spending leaks out of town so this hub is also about reversing that and encouraging more people passing through to stop here.” River Crossing will offer seamless parking between Kmart and the adjoining Countdown Ashburton South and is projected to create around 180 jobs for the town and generate “tens of millions” in annual turnover. River Crossing will undoubtedly entice a good number of the 25,000 vehicles that pass by every day. Following project completion and fit-outs, River Crossing is due to start trading from October 2022. Thompson Construction & Engineering are leading the development works, with Ashburton Contracting Limited (ACL) delivering civil works services. “We’re really pleased with progress to date.” Tony observes there is a lot of commercial and residential building activity in Ashburton currently, reflecting confidence in the local economy. At the other end of town, Tricroft is currently offering a 1000sqm showroom with generous back of house space at their warehouse building (formerly Bunnings) off West Street. Smiths City has taken up the middle tenancy and, at time of writing, one other tenancy was close to being settled on the building’s northern side. With Robert Harris and Canterbury Vets also sited here, this is already a thriving retail complex in its own right. Tricroft also has several business hot desks available at Aon House on the corner of West Street and Queens Drive. Tony says these would be particularly attractive for property development related businesses, joining other property service related tenants in the Tricroft space. “At the moment a lot of local retail spending leaks out of town so this hub is also about reversing that and encouraging more people passing through to stop here.” 1/151 High Street, Christchurch P 029 200 8819 E tom.evatt@tomevatt.co.nz W tomevatt.co.nz The Tom Evatt & Co team are proud to be partnering with the Tricroft Group in this exciting new project and wish them every success Providing Surveying and Land Development Services across Canterbury 03 365 1888 | info@misura.nz | www.misura.nz | Unit 5A 337 Harewood Rd, Bishopdale
