56 | CONTRACTING Daveron Scaffolding Top scaffold award for heritage project T Kelly Deeks Daveron Scaffolding won the 2021 SARNZ Commercial/Events Job of the Year for its supporting work on the heritage restoration of The Christchurch Arts Centre’s physics and biology building, which has been converted to a luxury boutique 33-room art-themed hotel. Daveron Scaffolding was awarded the 2021 Scaffolding, Access, and Rigging New Zealand (SARNZ) Commercial/ Events Job of the Year, for Leighs Construction’s Restoration and Conversion project at The Arts Centre, Christchurch. The heritage restoration of The Arts Centre’s physics and biology building was converted to a luxury boutique 33-room art-themed hotel, supported by Daveron Scaffolding. This involved full perimeter scaffolding, internal propping, multiple dismantles and reerects, and multiple shrink-wrapped temporary roofs which included an expansive rolling roof over the main structure. Daveron Scaffolding has enjoyed working on various projects at The Arts Centre for the past 20 years. Managing director David Roberts says the company has developed good relationships with all the different contractors and staff who work on site. “These long-standing relationships have enabled projects to proceed seamlessly,” he says. “With a proven record in historical scaffolding, from a stained-glass window, a church steeple, or a Category 1 New Zealand Historic Places Trust Building like The Arts Centre, we have the knowledge, experienced manpower, and equipment to get the job done.” Daveron Scaffolding was commended by SARNZ for a brilliant job, the unceasing protection of the building fabric of The Arts Centre, and for working through some tough challenges, including multiple engineering sign offs as the project progressed. Daveron Scaffolding was established in 1991 as a two-man operation, which has since grown to a team of more than 40 staff. “Our focus is on providing safe height access and propping, and we pride ourselves on our dependability and reliability,” David says. “If project requirements change, we have the capacity to add people and equipment to a job to ensure deadlines are met.” The company performed well in the repair and restoration environment following the Christchurch earthquakes. Once that market started to settle post earthquake, Daveron Scaffolding made the decision to take the excess resources it had acquired and set up an additional branch in Blenheim in 2016. Daveron Scaffolding has the resources to support both large and small projects, encompassing industrial, commercial and residential work. The firm provides a full range of height access services including scaffold, propping, and swinging stages, all built to code by a qualified team. Its vehicle fleet of 15 trucks includes a hook truck for the delivery of scaffold to sites. This operates independently of the scaffolding crews and has twice the capacity of a standard scaffolding crew truck. The monitoring and controlling of safety issues and the development of health and safety policies and procedures are taken care of by Daveron Scaffolding’s in-house health and safety advisor. In addition, two dedicated scaffold inspectors complete weekly scaffold inspections to provide a second-check process and ensure compliance. “Our focus is on providing safe height access and propping, and we pride ourselves on our dependability and reliability.” ::: $&&2817,1* &2 1= .(1'216#$&&2817,1* &2 1= 6+2: 3/$&( _ &+5,67&+85&+ <285 $'9,625< (;3(576 ,1 7$; $&&2817,1* %86,1(66 675$7(*< 3/$11,1* &$6+)/2: 0$1$*(0(17 %86,1(66 0(1725,1* &2$&+,1* 62)7:$5( $33 ,17(*5$7,21
