| 59 Active Refrigeration - Christchurch Active Refrigeration’s reputation is built on its successful delivery of “In-house design engineering from cradle to grave”, says company co-founder Craig Duff. CONTRACTING Max Robertson and Jamie Hunt completed their welding apprenticeship together in Napier. After close to ive years of contracting to others and spending a lot of time on the road, Max and Jamie decided it was time to set up their own business, given the extensive knowledge gained, and numerous local connections that were established over this period. Elite Welding Services Ltd concentrate on certi ied ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) welding, which means their work often involves steam and/or ammonia, or as Max puts it, “anything harmful, anything that could injure or kill if it sprung a leak.” They also undertake a considerable amount of process piping work – putting together systems that move produce, like tomato sauce or milk for example, from one end of a factory to the other. Elite Welding Services – precision perfect Max and Jamie have a clear focus with steel pipe, whether stainless steel or mild steel, and this sets the very core of the business. “There are not a lot of companies that stay focused on pipework” says Max, “We’ve got a good group of welders and engineers that make up our team, with myself managing the project and Jamie running the team.” Much of their work is pre-fabricated on site at their Leyland Street factory in Onekawa. “Say it’s a new cool store or pump station, the client will send us the drawings and we will fabricate it all here. An inspector will come to our site, check the welds and conduct a pressure test - when we send the product to its destination it’s 100 per cent ready to go. E ectively, what we do on site gets checked on site, this way travel and accommodation costs are kept to a minimum, making it more cost-e ective for our clients,” says Max. Elite Welding Services Ltd has built a solid reputation for being fast and cost-e ective. They aim to quote as much as they can, enabling costs to be evident right from the start, and their repeat cliental are proof it’s a winning formula. One of those repeat clients is Active Refrigeration, a company that Elite Welding Services Ltd enjoys working with, thanks to the detailed drawings and relevant information provided. Prior planning makes the job run e iciently, which fundamentally saves the client money in the long run. Whether its ammonia for refrigeration purposes, steam, oil and gas, wine, milk, or any other food product, Elite Welding Services Ltd make it their business to build seamless piping systems, built it for purpose, and in the most e icient, transparent, cost-e ective way possible.
