While working on a vineyard project Ollie noticed an opportunity to grow her skillset, volunteering to learn more types of equipment, and gained multiple licenses. “One of the standout things was that she noticed the project manager was under the pump and so would return to the office after her shift to help with paper work. “That led to her promotion as assistant foreman in 2023 at only 25 years of age, and in a permanent position. She has the respect of all her team mates, and they follow and trust her.” Leith started with Simcox in 2017 as a labourer, and jumped into his Level 4 Connexis Apprenticeship, worked on GPS equipment, gained his HT licenses, and in 2021 was offered an opportunity to move into a drainage team operating GPS diggers and bulldozers. In late 2021 he stepped up to the role of Assistant Foreman as part of a three man management team leading 50 people. “At 24 he became a foreman, working with very experienced people. Being so young, that can be a challenge, but he gained their respect. He has a very good leadership style.” Isaac Construction was again rewarded at the 2023 CCNZ National Awards held in September, winning the Category 1 Award for projects up to $2 million for its very challenging Matipo Street Rail Crossing in Christchurch. That project was for the replacement of a railway crossing, which involved the steel rails and signalling. “Closing down a railway corridor has a massive impact on train movements,” says Jade. “Time was our biggest challenge, alongside getting the work done safely and efficiently. KiwiRail allowed us sixty hours to complete the project, which was three days over a 24hr per day operation and that was during Covid in 2021. Our team planned a comprehensive high-impact programme with multiple teams scheduled, we had our subcontractors and contingency plans. The project was completed successfully and on time.” Success continued to smile on the Isaac Construction team, winning both the Company Image Award and Category D – Projects over $5 million, at the CCNZ Canterbury Westland Awards, for a bus priority project in Lincoln Road, Christchurch. The project included a major utilities upgrade, pavement rehabilitation, traffic light upgrades and streetscaping. “Lincoln Road is a very long and busy street in Christchurch,” explains Jade. “Company Image is all about public perception and how well you engage with stakeholders, the site presentation, and site health and safety. We were very happy to be awarded the Company Image award because it was such a large project on a very tight programme, with quite a bit of anxiety from people around how it would impact their ability to get to work or school.” At the same Awards evening, Liddell Construction was Highly Commended for Category B - $500,000 to $2.5M for its Bridge 13 project for KiwiRail, another high-impact programme. Jade acknowledges that for Isaac Group, staff engagement is one of the biggest benefits from winning industry awards. “The whole team is proud to have won these awards, which are proudly displayed at their respective head offices, and are celebrated as a wider company. “Everyone is really proud to work for a company that is successful, but also just to be recognised as being successful. We love recognising our staff, and we’re proud of them and the projects we work on. Clients also like their projects to be recognised.” BLOCKS BRICKS PAVERS RETAINING Premium Central Otago Made Building Products Proudly Supporting Isaac Construction Ltd 165 McPherson Rd, Earncleugh, Alexandra 03 449 3140 Sales@viblock.co.nz www.viblock.co.nz Phone: 03 489 4444 email: a.shollands@xtra.co.nz Andrew 0274 311 269 Sarah 0274 861 015 Carl 0274 363 820 Congratulations to Isaac Construction on their success in the Dunedin City Retail Quarter upgrade P 03 488 2922 | E info@clearwatercivil.co.nz 7 Brighton Road, Green Island, Dunedin Drainage | Asphalting | Roading Earthworks | Demolition Commissions of storm water, wastewater and water reticulation Underground power, gas and telecommunication infrastructure.
