22 | Isaac Group - CCNZ Awards T T Richard Loader Owned by wildlife trust The Isaac Group has about 450 full time permanent staff. “That might rise to between 500 – 550 on any given day, depending on the contracts being worked on,” says Marketing Manager Jade Houghton. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT From its foundation in 1950 as a family owned and operated Canterbury based civil construction business, Isaac Construction has progressively evolved to become part of a wider multi-award winning group of contracting businesses, offering a broad South Island reach, but with conservation and wildlife at its heart. In the 1970s Isaac Construction’s founders, Sir Neil and Lady Isaac, established the Isaac Conservation and Trust. Nowadays, the Isaac Group and its companies are wholly owned by the Trust. The Isaac Group was formed in 2018 with the purchase of Marlborough based contracting business Simcox Construction. Well known for its heavy and large-scale earthworks projects including dams, vineyard construction and land development Simcox Construction provided the Group with additional contracting diversity, as well as versatility in the niche area, while bolstering its core general civil construction capability. Always with a view to grow and expand, in 2020 Isaac Group purchased Greymouth based civil construction company Liddell Construction, a niche player with experience in heavy civil construction including bridge building, repairs and strengthening along with pre-cast concrete work. The Isaac Group covers the whole South Island with its Head Office based in Christchurch, and further regional offices in Dunedin, Greymouth and Nelson, with Simcox Construction offices in Blenheim, and Liddell Construction offices in Greymouth. Within Civil Construction, Isaac Group provides a diverse suite of services including traffic management construction, drainage, three-waters crews, paving and sealing crews, along with quarries in multiple locations throughout the South Island. The Group also has its own IANZ Accredited laboratories to test all its own materials, as well as materials for external clients. “Across the Isaac Group we have about 450 full time permanent staff, and might rise to between 500 – 550 on any given day, depending on the contracts being worked on,” says Marketing Manager Jade Houghton. “The Isaac Group has a really strong commitment to training and development, and we have our own Learning and Development team. All staff get a development plan and we will support them with a mix of external industry training and our internal teams.” Jade says a significant point of difference for Isaac Group is that it is owned by the Conservation and Wildlife Trust. “The Isaac Group of companies exists to sustain the Conservation and Wildlife Trust and the amazing work that it does. “As far as we can tell, it is very unique in that it is the only civil construction company in the world that is owned by a wildlife trust. “Currently, the Conservation and Wildlife Trust breeds five of New Zealand’s highly endangered birds in partnership with DOC. “The Trust is very humble, but many of those rare species would not be alive today without the work that the Trust does.” www.adamsnz.com Isaac Construction Ltd PLUMBING • DRAINAGE • ELECTRICAL • GAS FITTING SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS EASILY Roading & Building Recruitment Connecting people & skills with opportunities 0800 RECRUIT www.rbrecruitment.co.nz
