Shane Stevenson, the Project Manager and Estimator, joined Ajax Building Contractors in 2019. His career, starting in 2005 and culminating in becoming a licensed building practitioner, spans both residential projects and extensive knowledge of specialist building products. Shane’s role at Ajax Building Contractors involves overseeing estimates and managing projects, reflecting his dedication to precision and efficiency. The team’s extensive experience, with some members serving for 25-40 years, enables Ajax Building Contractors to handle multiple projects simultaneously, catering to both large industrial contracts and smaller residential needs. The customer base includes major industry players such as Alliance Group, Silver Fern Farms, Fonterra, Danone Nutricia and XL Structural. One successful recent project is the completion of the AdvanceQuip project at 7 Saleyard Road in Gore, working in collaboration with XL Structural. Ajax Building Contractors came on board early concept and preliminary pricing stage in 2021. “This enabled the client to know what the cost would be upfront. We were also able to tweak a few aspects to create efficiencies,” says Tom. Construction started early 2022 with Ajax Building Contractors eventually delivering around 1700sqm workshop and office plus 200sqm of commercial purpose built washdown area. The excavation was completed before winter then concrete foundations and steel portals and by the end of 2022 the roof on. Ajax Building Contractors then commenced timber framing and Endurabond panelling and a CLT laminated plywood floor. Tom says the floors were around 200mm thick so it made installation easy with no framing was needed to hold the floor up. It was a new installation for the team but due to its experience no challenge was too large. “We battled weather conditions throughout the whole project but apart from that it went very smoothly,” says Tom. “It was about scheduling wisely and we managed to get materials on time and sufficient labour, which also helped. “To beat a lot of material increases we pre ordered and stored some of the material before it was due to be fitted on the building. “The project shows we are capable of delivering a top-notch architecturally designed project that is built for purpose and perfectly suited to the client’s needs. We have the gear and the personnel to pull these projects off successfully.” Ajax Building Contractors also actively engages in Ministry of Education projects, commercial undertakings for Clutha District Council and Gore District Council and residential builds. Tom proudly mentions a large architectural home underway in North Gore, poised for completion in March/April next year, showcasing the company’s capability to balance aesthetics and functionality. It has just completed a 150sqm house in Gore. Ajax Building Contractors offers an emergency breakdown response service as well as having clients on regular maintenance contracts. “It was about scheduling wisely and we managed to get materials on time and sufficient labour, which also helped.” Ajax Building Contractors has been busy this year with repair and industrial civil works for Silver Fern Farms and Alliance.
