Silva Studio ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN As property prices escalate out of reach in many other regions, more and more people are being drawn to easy living in South Canterbury, where property is reasonably priced, the commute to work is bound to be short, and high quality amenities and activities are all in easy reach. Architectural designer Felipe Silva Valdes manages Silva Studio in Timaru, where he and his team have been helping out-of-towners to settle in South Canterbury with the full range of residential design services from renovations through to high end bespoke design. “We’ve had a number of clients moving to South Canterbury,” he says. “People from Auckland and Wellington, a couple from India, and even people from Christchurch where it takes 50 minutes to get from one side of the city to the other. Here in Timaru, you can get anywhere in five minutes.” With a sound economy, diverse industry sectors, and healthy growth, South Canterbury has earned its place on the world stage for business. The local economy is influenced by South Canterbury’s agricultural heritage and today this diverse industry continues to thrive across the region alongside manufacturing, engineering, and logistics businesses, many of which are nationally and internationally recognised brands. PrimePort Timaru, with its strategic location in the centre of the South Island, supports import/export industry hubs essential to the national economy. Silva Studio has seen growth across the region, and Felipe says in particular Geraldine is proving a popular new home for out of towners. “Now that people have realised they can work from home, they are seeing Geraldine as an ideal place to live,” he says. “Just half an hour to the bigger city and Timaru Airport where you can fly to Wellington, and two hours to Christchurch. The cost of property is reasonable, and it’s a friendly and welcoming town with a great village atmosphere, a vibrant art scene, and boutique shopping. People really appreciate it.” Other local towns closer to Timaru are just as attractive for people looking for a good deal on their new property. Pleasant Point and Temuka are both steeped in history and close to a wide range of outdoor activities. “Temuka is more of a rental market and people are buying property for financial gain. We’ve worked for builders in Temuka who will buy a property, do it up themselves, and then rent it out. We’re always happy to help with that kind of project.” In Timaru, development is now underway on 80 to 90 sections on a massive plot of land near Alpine Energy Stadium. Residential development is also heading northwards with room for housing in Washdyke, and towards the golf course and Hunter Hills area with potential for more than 1000 sections in the next eight to 10 years as individual landowners start selling off their farmland. Felipe says all of this new housing is going to be around for the next 50 to 100 years, so the life of each home and its resale value must be considered at planning time. “At Silva Studio we provide our clients with a high professional standard of architectural design services,” he says. “We not only undertake the architectural and construction documents, but can also provide additional support and services throughout the design and construction stages. Come to us with any idea, photo, or sketch, and let us bring them to life.” a [ N#93Ā F#[ \ bJ - 3 J C#3 Ā J CN# N 3+JĀ F #3 3 29F Ą ” F Ĕ ôöû öûû ýùõý -- RJ N9 b 3bJ Ĕ ôöû úüú öö÷û 027 750 8926 | Email: horrellconstruction@gmail.com www.horrellconstruction.co.nz Your South Canterbury & McKenzie Country, New Home & Renovation Builders, based in Geraldine.
