LIFESTYLE The first residents have moved into Summerset’s Prebbleton village on the outskirts of Christchurch and the vibe is extremely positive, says Summerset South Island construction manager Joe Roberts who is overseeing the project. “People are loving the community and facilities and really enjoy being here,” he says. “They are appreciating the freedom of a relaxed, semi-rural retirement.” As with any village location is key and Prebbleton is conveniently situated close to the local shopping area, key public transport routes into Lincoln and central Christchurch and is just a short distance to the Lincoln Golf Course. Once complete, Summerset Prebbleton will offer over 290 independent homes including a mix of villas, cottages and serviced apartments. The first stage release of homes is available right now for people to purchase. The single storey villas include two and three bedroom options and offer modern, bright, spacious, open-plan living. There is one bathroom and second separate toilet and accessible showers, grab rails and slip-resistant floors are included. Outdoor living allows people to relax and entertain and there is an internal access garage. The two bedroom cottages are also single storey, modern homes that are easy to live in and maintain. Joe says an important focus of Summerset villages is that they provide care options for all stages of life so once people move in they know they will always be well cared for as their needs change. Double bedroom serviced apartments offer a step up in care and have a generous double bedroom, suitable for couples and singles, along with spacious separate living area with kitchenette. An ensuite includes accessible shower, grab rails and slip-resistant floor and there is also generous storage. Twenty four hour support is always close at hand and, once complete, the apartments will be certified by the Ministry of Health to provide rest home level care. There will also be a care centre providing a range of care options plus Summerset’s industry-leading memory care centre specifically designed to support those living with dementia. Joe says people will feel at home in their care room by decorating and furnishing the room to suit their preferences. The rooms will accommodate a television, a comfortable chair and other small items of furniture. The memory care apartments offer innovative apartment-style living for residents living with dementia. They comprise modern single bedroom apartments, a secure garden and warm and inviting communal areas. Once complete they will be certified by the Ministry of Health to provide rest home level secure dementia care. Once the village is complete, residents will also have access to a range of community facilities including communal vegetable gardens, piano, resident workshop, pool table, library, bar, barbeque facilities, hair salon, swimming pool and spa pool, café, bowling green and lounge with large screen TV. Most of these facilities will be housed in a Village Centre building with construction due to commence this year. An on-site activities coordinator will ensure there’s always a calendar of events that cater to a wide range of resident interests and activities.
