Tasman: Waimea Group NZ REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT There is no longer the need to move to a bigger centre for career advancement as the Nelson region has a plethora of business and career opportunities including at Waimea Group, a fast growing Kiwi company. Having grown to over $50m in revenue over three years, staff numbers have risen from 20 to 60. As the company’s growth trajectory continues Waimea managing director Truan Bailey says it is looking for top talent: “We have a growth plan for the next three years, which will see us recruiting key management personnel to build a platform for sustainable business growth. Opportunities exist in operations, production and supply chain management as the business becomes a major New Zealand player in its specialist field,” he says. Waimea Group provides specialist utility vehicles to a variety of industries including power and energy, arborists, underground utilities, liquid waste and road and transport. Truan says the company’s ability to span such a range of industries has set it apart along with its vision to achieve zero vehicle downtime within the utilities sector, fit for purpose turnkey builds that mitigate risk and lifecycle service support. “We believe in our vision of it being possible for specialist utility vehicles to be managed to avoid any vehicle downtime. We aim to provide our customers with reliable equipment so they can safely maintain utility services for the community and everything we do feeds into this objective.” The company’s unique value proposition extends to making it easy for the customers to get into highly specialised equipment by removing the hurdles. “For example typically specialist trucks have a long production lead time of around 18 months for production. We have a system where we make commitment speculatively two years in advance. That opens up availability so we can deliver to our customers in much shorter lead times. We also have a different model on our front end with hire to buy, so people can build equity in the equipment as they trade, and lease systems. People don’t have to be able to afford it on day one because we have the tools to get people into the equipment they need now.” Truan says Waimea Group has helped many people to start their own business. For example, an Auckland operator with extensive hydro-excavation experience as an operator decided to go out on his own. Utilising Waimea Group’s hire to buy service, he was able to finance his way into a truck. He is now on his third truck because he was able to focus on his business while Waimea Group removed the complexity of financing and building turnkey hydro-excavators and brought them to site just when he needed them. All of this adds up to great career opportunities for people who want to join the fast and go-ahead Waimea Group, says Truan. A role staircase structure means staff know exactly what they need to do to get to the next role, which gives them the power to progress, he says. Truan also points to the strong cultural core of Waimea Group that makes it a great place to work. “We really have an excellent culture at Waimea Group. One example is that we have value heroes every quarter that are nominated by staff. These are people who represent our values and they receive public recognition. It creates a positive vibe for people to do their best. “Everybody wants to feel good at work and be part of a success story. It brings the best out of people. Regardless of their role they are all aligned with where Waimea Group is going and that makes for a powerful force to progress and a very positive environment to operate in. We can give people opportunities to progress in a fast changing, fast growing business. At Waimea Group anyone that comes with aspirations and ambition can succeed.” Proud to Support Waimea Group NZ Ltd • Business Computing • Wireless Networking • Internet & Data Security • Cloud Computing • Vehicle & Fleet Tracking i i i l i I i l i i l l i Crane Inspecon • Mobile Cranes • Truck Loader Cranes • Gantry, Goliath, Monorail Cranes Pressure Vessel Inspecon • Boilers • Welded Pressure Vessels • Pressure Piping Non-Destrucve Tesng • Magnec Parcle Tesng • Dye Penetrant Tesng • Visual Inspecon • Ultrasonic Thickness Tesng EWP 6 Monthly Inspecons EWP Major Inspecon Welding Qualificaons Welding Procedures 03 922 9682 compliance@mecnz.co.nz www.mecnz.co.nz Professional compliance services you can trust
