86 | BUILDING Trident Homes Wanaka: Formance All set for growth in Wanaka The show home is a bespoke design based on energy efficient principles and incorporates Formance structurally insulated panels. T T from page 85 The show home is a bespoke design based on energy efficient principles and incorporates Formance structurally insulated panels (SIP) to create an envelope with high ‘R’ insulation values. The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings of timber oriented strand board. The result is an engineered panel that provides structural framing, insulation, and exterior sheathing in a solid, one-piece component. Designed for family living the 190 square metre, three bedroom home has generous storage options and features a loft above its double garage that could double as an extra room. It is clad vertically in dark-toned Stria which is complemented by warm-toned Truwood, a highly durable thermally modified, clear grade, low density hardwood. “These will perform really well in this climate in combination with the Formance panels. These are great products that will work really well in the summer and winter extremes of this climate.” Also enhancing its livability and thermal efficiency will be its thermally broken concrete floor and glazing, and a ducted heat pump for both heating and cooling. “I believe it will be really well suited to this climate and I think the value’s there with the energy savings that can be made with the power consumption. “We are really looking forward to be able to showcase the home’s design and features as well as the quality of our workmanship.” Formance general manager Nick Hubbard says because people spend about 70% of their time indoors, the quality of the indoor environment correspondingly plays a big part in their quality of life. “The product is all about separating the outside environment from the inside environment and the better the separation the more control you can have over the climate inside.” Although building with Formance SIP panels initially costs more, the ongoing energy savings, comfort and potential health benefits are indefinite, Nick says. “The fact that you’ve got such an effective building envelope means that the whole house stays at an even temperature; it’s a whole house heating and cooling strategy.” Local Experts for over 20 Years.
