Gecko Interiors BUILDING Christchurch’s Gecko Interiors has such a strong commitment to client satisfaction that sees its dedicated team of interior finishings experts going above and beyond the duties of a traditional subcontractor to deliver results that truly embody their clients’ visions. A recent architectural new build project on Straven Road may have been out of the ordinary, but the Gecko team just knuckled down, did what needed to be done, and did it well. Gecko general manager Hayden McKenzie says late last year, Gecko was approached by the client whose builder had let them down, and left them with no-one to finish their home. “We were called in to do a bit of gib fixing and plastering, but we soon realised there was more needing to be done,” he says. “They needed an electrician to fit off their heat pumps and underfloor heating, they needed glaziers, plumbers, and painters. As we started to understand more of their needs, we pulled in a lot of our resources and ended up project managing the completion of their home. It’s still a work in progress, but after about six weeks of very hard work we were able to get them into their new home by Christmas.” Collaboration has always played a big part in the success of Gecko’s projects. The team works closely with its clients, listening attentively to their preferences and aspirations. “Successful interiors are a reflection of our clients’ personalities and lifestyles.” Through ongoing communication and collaboration, and exceptional craftsmanship, Gecko creates visually stunning spaces that foster a sense of connection and belonging for their inhabitants. The triangular house on a triangular section wasn’t even a simple job for Gecko’s experienced team. “It has so many angles in the roof lines and the walls, and a couple of triangular rooms,” Hayden says. “It is a beautiful home, and there were certainly some complicated components to it for us as the interior plasterers. But we have a very dedicated team and we like to go in and get the job done, and do it really well. We believe in effective and thorough quality control, and we like to follow through and make sure our clients are happy.” After 10 years of successful operation in Christchurch, Gecko Interiors is now expanding into Nelson. Company owner Izaac Burrough has family in Nelson and has followed them there to find a huge amount of growth in the construction market at the top of the South. Izaac has grown his team and his business to the point he engaged Hayden last year to deal with the operations so that Izaac himself could spend more time on the tools and training young staff. “We’ve been able to grow our team through word of mouth,” Hayden says. “We’ve even contacted people who have worked for us in the past, asked them to come back and they have.” With exceptional craftsmanship and an innovative approach to transforming living and working spaces, Gecko Interiors looks forward to creating cozy home environments and functional workspaces for clients in Nelson.
