16 | REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Wyma Solutions Advancing international trade through innovative technologies in the niche global market of post-harvest equipment has earned Christchurch-based Wyma Solutions a prestigious award at this year’s German-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Cementing its place as a global supplier of top-tier engineering solutions for the vegetable sector, Wyma Solutions received the Outstanding Contribution to DE/NZ Trade Award at the Auckland business gala held in April. The award recognises Wyma Solutions’ longterm successful partnership with Abenhardt GmbH, a major German carrot processor that Wyma has been supplying with cutting-edge, New Zealand-engineered processing systems since 2016. Their most recent design and manufacture for Abenhardt GmbH, was a specialised organic carrot-processing line, integrated with a third-party optical grader, installed last year. The project included conveyors, clean-wet hopper and vibrating length sizer, all engineered in Christchurch and manufactured between Wyma New Zealand and its Czech Republic facility. The award recognises Wyma Solutions’ achievements for both its integrated engineering solutions and its success in strengthening economic ties between New Zealand and Germany. Territory manager at Wyma Solutions, Peter van der Loo, who accepted the award on behalf of the company, says it is a significant milestone and credit to the hard work of Wyma Christchurch and its intercontinental partnerships. “This award is a great achievement,” says Peter. “Germany is a challenging market, with a lot of both local German and Dutch competition. Being awarded the job was a testament to our proven track record in the supply of largescale carrot line solutions.” As Wyma Solutions continues to expand its presence in European markets, its work with Abenhardt GmbH acts as a showcase to other potential customers from around the world. “Recently, one of our key customers from Canada visited Abenhardt as part of a European site tour,” says Peter. “No matter where we sell in the world, it will have been designed and engineered here in Christchurch, even if the manufacturing is split between here and our European facility.” Wyma Solutions operates from a two-yearold, purpose-built facility in Islington, which houses around 150 employees across the T T Bernadette Cooney Top of the crop in veggie processing “It’s a niche field, and we tend to fly a little bit under the radar in Christchurch, but Wyma Solutions globally have built a reputation for performance and durability.” board, from senior management to design and machining, plus its dedicated research and development facility. As a premium global supplier of post-harvest processing equipment, Wyma could be described as the Mercedes-Benz of wash line equipment for fresh produce, says Peter. “It’s a niche field, and we tend to fly a little bit under the radar in Christchurch, but Wyma Solutions globally have built a reputation for performance and durability.” First founded as a fledgling engineering workshop in 1962, the company was bought by John Wyma in 1991, who rebranded before he set about inventing his trademarked Vege Polisher machine, which set new standards in produce presentation. This invention formed the catalyst for the expansion of equipment categories and processing lines Wyma Solutions provides today. These include hoppers, tippers, washers and waste-removal systems. Our state-of-the-art, custom-built facility features fully enclosed processing areas and seamless overhead transfer. A 6-ton crane links our workshop directly to oversized spray booths (6,000 x 15,000 mm), ensuring eciency, quality, and precision for every job.
