38 | Te Awa Lifecare: The Grange T T Russell Fredric The Grange - a different way of caring The Grange will continue to be developed over the next decade to ultimately provide around 140 villas, 80 serviced cottages and 80 care beds for more than 400 residents. REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Creating a special model of care based on a strong sense of community is at the heart of The Grange Lifecare Village in Mosgiel. The Grange Lifecare Village and its sister village, Te Awa Lifecare in Cambridge, are 100% New Zealand owned by two families with more than 30 years’ industry experience. The Grange provides a comprehensive suite of living arrangements, from independent living in standalone villas and assisted living in cottages, to certified rest home and hospital-level care suites. Staged construction started on The Grange four years ago, following the village being consented in 2019. It opened for care in August 2023, but some residents have lived in independent villas for nearly four years. Chief executive Mandy Hudson says The Grange will continue to be developed over the next decade to ultimately provide around 140 villas, 80 serviced cottages and 80 care beds for more than 400 residents, supported by 200 staff. “We are really at our infancy now with only 20 care suites occupied, with 13 more coming on line in September. “More wings will be built in future stages, with a dementia homestead planned. We can complete a villa or two each month,” Mandy says. “We will have the full range of care from independent living to rest home, hospital, dementia and palliative care.” T T to page 40
