44 | New branch for Blenheim Enviro NZ is committed to managing, recovering and processing waste streams to deliver sustainable outcomes. Enviro NZ - Blenheim T T Karen Phelps REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Enviro NZ has strengthened its South Island presence with the establishment of a new branch in Blenheim, marking its return to Marlborough after an 18-year absence. The company, which last operated in the region in 2006, has identified the area’s growing wine industry as a key driver for expansion. Enviro NZ is a materials management and resource recovery company committed to managing, recovering and processing waste streams to deliver sustainable outcomes. The Blenheim operation launched in 2024, and is now under the leadership of branch manager Matt McCormick, who brings extensive local knowledge to the role. Matt started in January after spending nine years split between the Royal New Zealand Air Force and Marlborough District Council’s Environmental Compliance Team. “I have a deep passion for Marlborough, its people and the businesses that make the town tick,” says Matt. “I grew up playing rugby here, so I understand what drives this community.” Enviro NZ’s entry into the Marlborough market came through the acquisition of existing business Marlborough Liquid Waste, whose name it has retained for liquid- waste operations. The company subsequently introduced solid-waste services in August last year, creating a comprehensive waste-management offering for the region. “We identified Blenheim as a potential location that would grow over time with the wine industry,” explains Matt. “Since we already had several national customers in Blenheim using a subcontractor, when the opportunity came up to acquire a Marlborough business based on septic tank and liquid waste work from the wineries, it made sense.” The company now services liquid waste streams from wineries, wash bays and sumps, and also handles septic tanks, due to the area’s numerous rural properties and Marlborough Sounds location. The branch also offers general waste and recycling services for commercial businesses, including waste audits and tailored solutions for businesses seeking to optimise their waste-management approaches. The hospitality sector represents another key client base through grease trap waste collection. Residential customers can access gantry collection services and septic tank maintenance. Matt’s background in environmental compliance provides valuable insight into local industries and waste streams. His previous role involved monitoring resource consents for Marlborough District Council, giving him a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements and business needs. “I go out and meet new and existing customers, and work with clients to ensure a tailored waste solution is found,” he says. “We have a friendly team, who are always available for a chat.” Enviro NZ positions itself as a leader in waste minimisation and resource recovery. The company’s national network of collections services and critical infrastructure supports the vital sustainability efforts of local councils and commercial customers across the country. Whether it is turning landfill gas to power, organic waste to compost, or returning waterways to a healthy state, Enviro NZ works in partnership to protect and preserve the environment, says Matt. The company emphasises its local credentials with all Blenheim staff being based in the region. Community involvement includes sponsorship of the Marlborough Netball Centre and the Tasman Mako rugby team. The new branch operates from 3535 State Highway 1 in Riverlands, so it is well positioned to service both urban Blenheim and rural Marlborough properties. The company offers waste audits and tailored solutions for businesses seeking to optimise their waste-management approaches. For Matt, the opportunity to lead Enviro NZ’s return to Marlborough represents both professional growth and personal satisfaction in serving his home region. “I am keen to lead from the front with a hands-on approach when dealing with staff and customers. Blenheim is a small branch that can offer a great level of service. It’s the best of both worlds – a small team with a local branch manager, and numerous other branches throughout the country.” SERVICE YOU CAN DEPEND ON.
