While the Temuka Pottery side of the business had its heyday in the ’70s and ’80s, it only ever made up a small percentage of the business revenues, and was eventually sold in 2015. The company has displayed incredible resilience over the years, particularly in the face of cheap imported insulators arriving in the country. Prior to this there were over 400 employees at the site. Twenty years ago, the company was on the verge of shutting down and got down to around 30 employees. But with perseverance and a commitment to producing a high-quality, reliable product, it has regained 90 to 95% market share, Chris says. “Now we are in a reasonably solid position, and I would suggest we are going to be around for a long time yet.
